Members Skaginator
Hi, I've been playing for a good few years now and I really need a bass better than my old Squier P-Bass (which I got for 20 pounds by the way :-). Anyway, I'm a serious player, but one who knows little about the actual bass itself and I'm willing to spend up to around 800 pounds (I guess thats 1600 dollars?) on a new bass. I play a lot of funk and slap bass but that's along with most other styles. I'm not particularly looking for a specific bass but anyone wanna point me in the right direction as I know jack all? Cheers.
Members Tolka
G&L are well worth considering. You say you play a lot of music styles, well the G&L is one of the most versatile sounding basses. There is also the G&L Tribute which is slightly cheaper but has the same electronics. Members Thumper
Welcome! Check out a Fender Jazz, Music Man String Ray, or various G&L models to start. Check out as many different models as you can, and buy used to save some brass.

Members Death Hands
Just go somewhere and try all the basses in your price range. Buy the one that you can't let go of, and you're set.
Members jasper383
Go used, and you can get the same bass for a lot less money. Or a much better bass!
Members Skaginator
Cheers for the help guys. I'll have a look around the net at some of the basses you've mentioned. I'm going on a shopping trip soon to try out some basses too so thanks for your help.
