Members Optimus Prime Posted September 11, 2007 Members Posted September 11, 2007 Well, I have to wipe my computer tomorrow. It shuts down randomly, some error message pops up and wont close and iTunes {censored}s up my music every time it opens. I have all my movies, music, bass related stuff, and all my pictures. Am I missing anything? And I got all my bookmarks. And a list of all my programs. I hate it every time I have to do this.
Members SteveyDevey Posted September 11, 2007 Members Posted September 11, 2007 I was going to suggest bookmarks, but you've got it. If you partition the drive and put your files on a different partition than windows, you won't have to back them up the next time windows poops on itself.

Or do my wussy-ass method and install a second drive for the clean install.
Members xOriginalNinjax Posted September 11, 2007 Members Posted September 11, 2007 Or do my wussy-ass method and install a second drive for the clean install. Dude, it's better that way actually. Unless you have something that TOTALLY wipes the drive, it starts to get build-up, so to speak. A new drive is always best, but not always cost effective.
Members HackedByChinese! Posted September 11, 2007 Members Posted September 11, 2007 OP, if you want to wipe the drive first: DBAN
Members Bluescout Posted September 11, 2007 Members Posted September 11, 2007 I can't tell you how long it's been for me. I actually had XP on my old PC, then swapped the drive into my new PC and did a repair install to get it to recognise the new hardware. That was years ago. If your PC gets that screwed up, it's you. EDIT: Checking records, my PC upgrade was 3 years ago. That makes my current installation over 4 years old and running splendidly.
Members Jim-Bass Posted September 11, 2007 Members Posted September 11, 2007 ... I hate it every time I have to do this. Blimey! How often do you have to do that? Do you run diagnostics of any sort..computers are like cars, they need regular maintenance even if they appear to ok. And they both crash ...but there's no computer insurance, apart from back ups When I bought this Mac, I purchased an additional 2 yrs waranty (total 3 yrs)...that was 14 months ago. I've never need to claim a repair, but I think it's a conspiracy ...they probably send internet instructions to the computer:"warranty 3 yrs - HD to fail on 3 yrs + 1 day"
Members Jim-Bass Posted September 11, 2007 Members Posted September 11, 2007 . That makes my current installation over 4 years old and running splendidly. whoa, watch what you say, that's a comment that will tempt fate .... you should have added 'I backup everyday etc..' ....

Members Optimus Prime Posted September 11, 2007 Author Members Posted September 11, 2007 The last time I did this was 2 years ago. All my files are on a friends external he loaned me. I tried Norton and it {censored}ed me up so bad I uninstalled it.
Members claypoolfan Posted September 11, 2007 Members Posted September 11, 2007 Do you have spy and virus scan? sounds like a worm to me.
Members Optimus Prime Posted September 11, 2007 Author Members Posted September 11, 2007 Well I'm about to do it. I'll be back in a few hours after it's all done. I hope I didn't forget anything.
Members justinbass Posted September 11, 2007 Members Posted September 11, 2007 Good Luck. I do this about once a year or so. I love how fast a fresh install of XP is.
Members claypoolfan Posted September 13, 2007 Members Posted September 13, 2007 OP, how'd you make out?
