Members HumptyThumpty Posted September 12, 2007 Members Posted September 12, 2007 http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070912/music_nm/zeppelin_dc LONDON (Reuters) - Rock legends Led Zeppelin were set to announce a one-off comeback concert on Wednesday nearly three decades after disbanding.ADVERTISEMENT The group split in 1980 after the death of drummer John Bonham and have performed only a handful of reunion gigs, last taking the stage 12 years ago at their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Music Web site NME.com reported the show will be held in November in London. Bonham's son Jason is expected to wield the drum sticks for the band known to many fans simply as Zep. Rounding out Led Zeppelin, rated the best ever hard-rock band by U.S. channel VH1, would be its classic founding trio of singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones. NME.com said it would be a one-off show, not a full-fledged reunion tour. Plant and Page have joined forces over the years, notably on an album in 1994, but Jones has been more distant. When Bonham passed away after a long battle with alcoholism, his bandmates said Led Zeppelin, formed in 1968, had died with him. November is the scheduled release month for a greatest hits collection from the band. The reunion gig is slated for London's 02 Arena, which has a capacity of 20,000.

They will record it on DVD then make a mint if the concert goes well. I would buy it.
Members Apendecto Posted September 12, 2007 Members Posted September 12, 2007 I think it's super. They will record it on DVD then make a mint if the concert goes well. I would buy it. Yeah the tickets would probably be priced like Cream, but I'd watch the DVD. Yo.
Members picker13 Posted September 12, 2007 Members Posted September 12, 2007 Yeah the tickets would probably be priced like Cream, but I'd watch the DVD.Yo.20,000 seats for a one-time concert? I think you can safely say that if this doesn't set the record for the highest priced tickets, it'll be close. That's not even counting the scalping that will happen.
Members bassman1956 Posted September 12, 2007 Members Posted September 12, 2007 Saw Page & Plant in April of '95 at the Rosemont. Awesome show!
Members 50calexplorer Posted September 12, 2007 Members Posted September 12, 2007 walkers included? Good news is they'll actually have enough cash after a good tour to buy an actual stairway to heaven.
Members claypoolfan Posted September 12, 2007 Members Posted September 12, 2007 Thats very cool. I wish they'd do a U.S. concert. I'd travel pretty far to see them. I think the tickets will be like gold. That's not even counting the scalping that will happen. Can you imagine the price of a scalped ticket? I'm thinking a couple of grand anyway.
Members rllefebv Posted September 13, 2007 Members Posted September 13, 2007 Shhh... My daughter is trying to keep this on the DL... :poke: -robert
Members Thumper Posted September 13, 2007 Members Posted September 13, 2007 Pass, thanks. I'd rather remember them in their heyday.
Members Undead Sycip Posted September 13, 2007 Members Posted September 13, 2007 How many Greatest Hits/compilation albums can one group have?
Members PrestiaRules Posted September 13, 2007 Members Posted September 13, 2007 How many Greatest Hits/compilation albums can one group have? I didn't even know that had a Greatest Hits compilation thus far... mind you it has been 4 years since I have been in a North American/UK CD store... I liked what I heard of that How the West Was Won live compilation.
Members Goofball Jones Posted September 13, 2007 Members Posted September 13, 2007 I consider this more like the Cream get-together they had a few years ago. Just a "let's get the band back together" type gig. How come old blues players can play into their 70's or more (hell, Les Paul is still playing in his 90's), but when a band gets back together everyone and their brother comes out with the "oh, they're too old" nonsense? I don't get it. Meh, I'm prepared for the hate threads and posts about this. Let them come.

Members yubetyerboots Posted September 13, 2007 Members Posted September 13, 2007 Plant and Alison Krauss are doing a cd coming out Oct. 23rd!
Members lug Posted September 13, 2007 Members Posted September 13, 2007 When asked, none of the members have ruled out a following tour.
Members bassesofalessergod Posted September 13, 2007 Members Posted September 13, 2007 yeah, i'll wait for their tour......
Members lyricpoet Posted September 13, 2007 Members Posted September 13, 2007 Plant and Alison Krauss are doing a cd coming out Oct. 23rd! Why is that infinitely more interesting to me than this bull{censored} about a one-off Zeppelin show? Plant's voice has changed (matured, deepened). I was sick of them by 1977- constant FM radio airplay ad nauseam. Plant and JPJ have a wide interest in music and working with other artists, while Page reflects upon Zep as his long lost high school days. Yuk.

Nostalgia is not a bad thing. These guys are in their 60's and it might be their last, never know what life has in store. If they can make money reliving a glory day by creating a historic moment, why not?

I was just discussing that point with some friends..I think it has something to do with people being annoyed by the $$ that comes in. But if they want to do it again, why not? I am pleased that JPJ is involved. I saw the page and plant tour (which was great fun) in '95. I couldn't help thinking it would have been better if JPJ was there.
