Members BlueEcho811 Posted September 22, 2007 Members Posted September 22, 2007 I'm down to deciding between these two basses for my new main bass, which would you pick? http://www.rondomusic.com/wob825lhnat.html http://www.rondomusic.com/hxb406blkqleft.html Any input would be appreciated, esp. with how useful the 6 is over the 5.

Members Death Hands Posted September 22, 2007 Members Posted September 22, 2007 Dude they r so backwareds. I think that, for me, the appeal is playing most things in two positions. A lot of notes are just... right there. Chording is fun, as well. Tapping on them is killereasy because of placement. Slapping can be sort of hard, depending on spacing and your technique, but you can make a much larger wall of notes(if that's your thing) with a sixer(in my experience). I'll get one or the other or both, eventually.
Members dabbler Posted September 23, 2007 Members Posted September 23, 2007 i have the 6 string versions of both of those. Of course, the pup configuration on the 6 strng WOB is a little different, but here's my opinions: 1. I agre that a 5er is more useful unless you are doing chords or serious soloing... I'm trying to learn some chording. 2. The fact that you can play passive with the HXB is nice, but... 3. The EQ on my WOB KICKS the HXB all over my basement and out the door! The EQ on the HXB is OK, but the WOB is really nice (I can't even say for the price, since I've never played an upscale active). 4. People on this board have told me otherwise, but my experience is that extra long scale (what the HXB is) 6 string sets are rarer than long scale 5 or 6 string sets. That translates mainly into me not being able to use webstrings on my HXB. 5. IMO, the WOB is a more comfortable bass, the HXB has less rounded edges. I know I'm in nit territory here, but it matters a lot to some. My main basses are 5ers. That's the sweet spot for me, but they are also passive, I guess I like traditional tone.
