Members slapthefunkyfour
We had a gig scheduled this weekend, and they just told the singer that we all needed to get bar cards. He told them we didn't want to do that. Fill me in here.
Members RSBro
They had these in Killeen/Temple. Basically it's like another ID that some bars require you to have to get in, even if you have another ID like passport, driver's license, military ID, etc.. Members RSBro
A second ID? That's retarded. I'm sure it has to do with insurance reasons or something along the lines of liability for selling to minors, etc.. Plus you can only get them (here) if you're 21+, and a good bit of places require that nowadays. Don't blame them, actually.

Members slapthefunkyfour
I just talked to the singer some more. It isn't the bar, but the police department. It will cost me about $30 and an hour or two out of my work day to go down to the station and have them run a background check and fill out the paperwork and all that crap. This bar isn't paying us enough for that.
Members Westsailor
Nowadays in a lot of places bar employees (at least those that serve alcohol) are required to 'register' with the police. Didn't know that extended to bands. Or why it should.
Members slapthefunkyfour
Yeah, we're not gonna play there anymore. Too bad for them.
Members Bigfiddle
Bartenders and Wait Staff have to get Certified (Card) by the TABC to serve alcohol. If it's anything other than a unicard for private clubs which is $3 I'd cancel. Sounds like a load of {censored} to me.
Members Psilocybin
There is a nearby bar called "The Corner Club" and it has "club cards" you can get. They draw a card (every day, I think) and whoever gets picked drinks beer for free that day.
Members bholder
It's just another way for "the man" to say "we don't think we've sucked away quite enough of your money and soul yet, so thank you for cooperating". Screw 'em...
Members abstract
If it's free, go get it yourself...same if it's cheap. If it's more than $20, OR THE PROMOTER IS WANTING YOU TO PAY HIM FOR THE "CARD"...Add a rider to your contract that says something to the effect of "Superfluous ID necessary for entrance into the establishment; beyond what is necessary for police aka. a drivers license, passport, etc. is to be provided by said establishment". There Ya go Problem solved:thu:it should not have to cost you any out of pocket expense when you are contracted out for hire: in fact I would charge them a fee for me having to take time out of my daily schedule in order to obtain their silly ass little bar card , that should be the venues obligation if it is their requirement especially if you are not under any obligation by law to have one of these cards in your posession. you need to get something strait with the propritor of this establishment, you are under contract as the entertainment for the night and not a permanent employee serving drinks. Members lokidecat
My alcohol server license states that I'm 7'0" tall. Now, I'm 70" tall, but that is amusing. I asked if it invalidated it and the guy at the bureau said, "nah. Just tell anyone who asks you slouch. the signature and ID number is what's mainly needed". Members bassred
Here in Vegas you need a TAM card to sell alcohol, I'd refuse any kind of gig that required the band to get them, we aren't actually dispensing the booze, just promoting it!!!
