Members REMUS
Thinking about getting one of these or a Stingray, both in 4 string. Points for and against?

Members RSBro
As someone who's actually owned and played a Flea beyond the showroom floor, the Mod is where it's at. There is no contest.

Members REMUS
Hmmm... This is the modulus i've seen: And this is the ray: I'm thinking buy the ray now and get the flea bass later, since the ray is on the bay at the moment and can't wait. Members sunburstbasser
I've not spent a lot of time with either, but I have played a few versions of each. Both are definitely killer basses and in the same vein. For me, the 3-band Stingray was the defining tone of a "big humbucker" bass, with the Flea second and the 2-band Ray third. The Flea has the Modulus graphite neck, which can be made to play exceptionally nicely. If they were the same price I'd probably take the Flea, but if the Flea cost more than $300 more than the Ray I'd get the Ray.
Members REMUS
That cherry burst ray I posted pics of is a 3 band ray isn't it? I'm not up with with ray terminology, but I assume your talking about the eq right?
Members jasper383
Yes that's a 3 band eq. You have, front to back: vol, hi, mid, bass. Between those two, I'd go Ray. Sparkles don't do it for me. Exact same color, I'd go Modulus. Can't go wrong with either, though.
Members rpsands
Sound, man. It's about the sound. My mod destroys the rays I've played. Period. Mine was 450 bucks + 200 bucks worth of neck work, but it's basically a Flea as far as I can tell (single humbucker in the sweet spot, 18v preamp). Members Gruntollio Bass
I'm going to be absolutely no help here bro.............both of those basses look great to me. I understand your dilema! Toss a coin?

Members REMUS
What I would like to end up with is: Mod Ray Jazz Rebop 5 string Thats a whole lotta money, but i've got all the time in the world to get em Thanks very much for your input peeps, it's not a case of which now but when I get them both it's going to have to be the Ray first though! Members rummy
Stingray. 'Cause I own one, too. I love the feel of the Ray's neck. The Mod has a different feel to the neck.
Members REMUS
Stingray. Who the fuck would want a sparkly bass? Because i'm a fucking rock-n-roll-funk-a-potimus, that's why, you jack ass!
Members Optimus Prime
Because i'm a fucking rock-n-roll-funk-a-potimus, that's why, you jack ass! "rock-n-roll-funk-a-potimus"? It's sad that I'm going to take that as an acceptable answer. From now on, if anyone ever asks me about the Flea bass I'm just going to look at them dead serious and say "you are now a rock-n-roll-funk-a-potimus". And they're just going to say "lay off the acid bro". But name calling? That's mean. I have feelings too.

Members Brother Mango
Stingray. Who the {censored} would want a sparkly bass? He can get some spray paint for $5 an cover up that sparkly jive. Simple. Just do it outside to avoid inhaling the toxic fumes.

Members Goofball Jones
The Ray...all the way. Sorry, there hasn't been a Modulus bass I've liked...ever. For one, I think they're all ugly. I had the chance to get a Flea for under what I ended up paying for my Ray, but I still got the Ray after it was all said and done. But that's just me.
