Members willbill0587 Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 I've been looking at loads and they all have mixed reviews.I have been leaning towards the EBS one but the reviews don't give me much hope. So, which one is best thet you have played?Preferably I would like it to do up and down octaves.
Members ryanizzle Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 EHX HOG, POG or microPOG. i can only personally vouch for the HOG, but i'm assuming the others have similar technology. dead on tracking two octaves down to four up.
Members Thunderbroom Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 How low do these things go? Will it drop the low B on a 5 string two octaves?
Members ryanizzle Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 well, uh, um with an optimized setup, i imagine that it could beach a few blue whales...
Members vismund624 Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 i have a Whammy.... the one with midi... It has up and down... and a lot of other fetures that i barley use. It has very good tracking, but i prefer it for up.
Members Darkstorm Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 I'd say think bigger. Instead of a unit that just gives up up 1 or down 1, octave. Get a unit that lets you do any desired 2nd pitch up or down an octave. So if you want to do a 3rd, 5th, 8th, 9th, or whatever, you can. Secondly. if it also has "detune" as variation option same way, it'll give you two types of pitch shift effect. Though I've only seen this type of more versatile setup as a module on higher end effects procesors like the top of line Zooms etc. Myself much loves the ability to create tonal personalities via generated 2nd note being a 5, 8th, etc rather then just an octave.
Members walkerci Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 May I ask a noobish question? If your cab's can't produce a good sounding tone at one or two octaves down, then what is the point of an Octave Pedal? More mud? I have a Boss Octave pedal, but I could never use it in a playing situation.Between the mud and tracking problems, I don't need it. Try playing through an Eden WT800B with the Low EQ past 1 o'clock. No need for octave pedals. Especially with a 5 string. I am talking earthquake sounds.

I use my cheap danelectro octave not to go lower on low notes, but to get the fullness of the octave when I am playing higher notes...make sense? I guess if I had a more feature rich pedal that did octave up I could achieve the same effect by playing the lower octave... also, I find the octave in front of other effects can yield some cool sounds.

Yup, makes a lot of sense. I use a Boss Chorus to thicken up the sound.Thanks. Never thought of octaving playing the D and G strings.Still tracking is a real issue for me, especially when playing fast.
Members gspointer Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 How low do these things go? Will it drop the low B on a 5 string two octaves? I had one for a little while, mine started to lose tracking on the "B" around d.
Members Bluescout Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 I have an OC3 and it's good except it eats batteries. It starts to get crappy around G. I have wondered why Boss wouldn't make the second octave an octave up when you plug into the "bass input".
Members James Hart Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 best for single note stuff = Octronclosest for cheap = DOD FX35 Octoplus best for chords = Micro POG
Members lyricpoet Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 The freakin' best? E-H's H.O.G. Nothing even comes close. Period.
Members ryanizzle Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 The freakin' best? E-H's H.O.G. Nothing even comes close. Period. take care with good deals on ebay though. mine came three months later after a goosechase involving the local police and the FBI.
Members SpaceGhost Posted September 28, 2007 Members Posted September 28, 2007 Mirco Pog fits your bill precisely. Both octaves and tracks better then the boss or EBS octavers (plus they don't do up octaves).
