Members Thunderbroom
My wife and kids have been gone today, and I've had a hellish work week, so I decided to fire up the Univox today with the Avatar stack. The output was not near what I thought it should be. I put my Boss EQ pedal in front of it, set flat but with the volume boosted. That did the trick! I may gig with it next weekend. This thing sounds pretty damned good. It will not overdrive no matter how hard I push it though.
Members burdizzos
A better cable would eliminate your need for an EQ pedal.

Members Thunderbroom
Its the only time I use my rig at home, too... They don't care when they're hear. I normally just keep the volume in check. I didn't have to worry about that and had sh!t rattling on the walls. It's amazing how loud 150w can be. Members rikshaw
tube amps are great. i have a really nice one that i never use. it sounds great but its way overkill for any gig that i do these days. i need to unload it and look for a lower wattage amp

Moderators Kindness Posted October 8, 2007 Moderators Share Posted October 8, 2007 That's crazy, yet cool, you can't get it to overdrive. Oh and you're welcome again! What's crazy is the plate voltage in that amp. It's scary high. But the gain staging is set up to keep it clean all the way up. It's a cool little amp. Seriously cool. Seriously cool.I'm wondering if it's doing what it should on the pre side, though...You shouldn't have to boost your line level to get something out of it. Did you have your tones up Tbroom? Members Thunderbroom
Did you have your tones up Tbroom? Yes. It's fine with the G&L's but not with my other basses.
Members bnyswonger
Yes. It's fine with the G&L's but not with my other basses. They (G&Ls) tend to be pretty 'hot'. Are there two inputs on that head? On old school amps sometimes the #2 input is padded somewhat.
