Members Apendecto Posted October 9, 2007 Members Posted October 9, 2007 I've got a Explorer bass that doesn't get much use. It's got some dings on the back from my belt and strap. I'm not sure if chroming the bass is even possible since it's a set neck but I thought it might be cool and be a decent selling point if I ever get rid of it. How much would it cost and would the dings be covered by the chrome? Yo.
Members guitargod0dmw Posted October 9, 2007 Members Posted October 9, 2007 The dings would be covered, but you'd notice them. It would be like painting a car. You can paint over all the imperfections, but they'll still show. I'm not sure it would be possible to chrome wood. The chroming process basically uses electrolysis to adhere the metal to metal. Lets say it was possible...probably around $200 or so.
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted October 9, 2007 CMS Author Posted October 9, 2007 More than the bass is worth, and no. The plating will follow every nuance of the body.
Members lug Posted October 9, 2007 Members Posted October 9, 2007 Didn't BOALG chrome a bass? yep. I think it ends up weighing about 2.3 tons.
Members rummy Posted October 9, 2007 Members Posted October 9, 2007 Like this one? I believe Zender used to own one of those.
Moderators Kindness Posted October 9, 2007 Moderators Posted October 9, 2007 yep. I think it ends up weighing about 2.3 tons. And looking better from a good distance.
Members J. Posted October 9, 2007 Members Posted October 9, 2007 There's a place that used to advertise and sell the service on eBay. They actually use nickel plating if I remember correctly. BOALG has/had a chromed BC Rich. I don't imagine it could weigh much more than those shoulder-breaking acrylic guitars.
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted October 9, 2007 CMS Author Posted October 9, 2007 Anybody remember when Skippii was planning to cover a bass with squirrel fur???
Members Roguetitan Posted October 9, 2007 Members Posted October 9, 2007 I Think I would rather have one in multi colored duct tape than chrome:thu:

I don't how that would be done on wood because the bath is always a highly corrosive acid which would damage the wood. There must be another method like the one they use on plastics.

It will peal big time.......
Members James Hart Posted October 9, 2007 Members Posted October 9, 2007 I'm planning to "Silver Leaf" my Destroyer next month. I'll actually use imitation silver leaf... aka Aluminum Leaf. The pickups are being delivered tomorrow (friggin USPS jerking me around this weekend)
