Members bassman1956 Posted October 10, 2007 Members Posted October 10, 2007 I was in a car accident yesterday.
Members Thunderbroom Posted October 10, 2007 Members Posted October 10, 2007 I think I see the Virgin Mary in that last picture.
Members Verlian Posted October 10, 2007 Members Posted October 10, 2007 I think I see the Virgin Mary in that last picture. It looks more like a guy to me.
Members bassman1956 Posted October 10, 2007 Author Members Posted October 10, 2007 Was headed back to work after lunch, headed around an easy bend to the right, and this guy from the other direction comes around the bend in my lane! I laid on the horn, and the brakes, and he ran right into me. He was looking at me like he saw absolutely nothing unusual in front of him as we collided. Smack into me! I can still see his face like nothing was wrong. Must've been multitasking. It was a hard jolt! My air bag did not go off, so the cops said it couldn't have been either of us going fast on impact. And you can see from the road pic, the 2 fluids stains are very close, and also, that since I'm the one on the left headed to the right, he was clearly in my lane. Felt everything in my shoulders and neck wrench on impact. Instantly, just laid my head back and relaxed until aid got there. Police and EMT's were there in a flash. They put a collar on me, and unloaded me from the car onto a back board, and took me to the ER. I did see the other driver get out, standing while talking on his cell to 911, and asked if I needed help, and I nodded, and stayed put. Also could hear the other driver tell them he couldn't feel his legs, and was going to pass out, then he went to the yard on my right. No idea what happened to him after that. I have no idea what else happened, as I never moved in the car, and just let everything go by. Anyways, spent the afternoon in ER as they took x-rays of my neck and left hand, and then 2 more sets of my neck, before they were convinced they could let me upright and out of the collar. A friend picked me up and brought me home. We stopped by the police station and picked up my cards and copy of the report. Turns out, the guy had no insurance, and it was his mom's car from another address. Also found out he was taken to the hospital too. No idea how bad he was. Got the claim filed this AM, have my rental, and hoped to empty my car today, but they're understaffed at that lot right now, so you have to schedule stuff like that. Will be seeing the surgeon &/or neurologist to check my neck too, since it's already been rebuilt twice, and until this, was doing the best it had in 12 13 years. Luckily, I have full coverage with good uninsured-underinsured driver benefits. Don't mind getting a new car, but not like this. And this was very bad timing to, as you don't want to buy a car until AFTER you move into a new house.
Members Verlian Posted October 10, 2007 Members Posted October 10, 2007 O_O Oh my god.... I really hope everything in this massive situation ends well for you, buddy..
Members Emprov Posted October 10, 2007 Members Posted October 10, 2007 Dang, that sucks! How's the neck feel? You've got too much time, effort and money into it only to have some idiot mess it up.

Members REMUS Posted October 10, 2007 Members Posted October 10, 2007 That is freaky, I was joy riding with a bunch of friends in this dudes parents car (not something i'm immensely proud of but i'm not going to lie). To cut a long story short, he totaled it completely..Exactly the same car except for the color
Members Super Bass Posted October 10, 2007 Members Posted October 10, 2007 Damn, I hope your neck is ok! I haven't been in any car accidents although I did get hit by a car a few years back. I just ended up with a broken ankle, dodgy knee, a few nasty scars and a concussion. Also I lost my memory of the event and about 20 mins afterwards. The car I got hit by came off worse than me. Thankfully the driver and passenger were ok. Got hit by a Nissan Micra....ahahahaha
Members groutt Posted October 11, 2007 Members Posted October 11, 2007 Hope things turn out OK for you. I'm so f'in sick of hearing this crap: - idiot does something stupid- hurts somebody- no insurance
Members Thumper Posted October 11, 2007 Members Posted October 11, 2007 Jeebus! Not like you haven't had enough neck/back trouble lately...I hope you're doing ok.
Members bassman1956 Posted October 11, 2007 Author Members Posted October 11, 2007 Thanks guys. Yeah, here's hoping there's no residual damage or problems with the neck. Meanwhile, with my left thumb and wrist sprained, there's no bass playing for a while either. And right about now, I'd love to grab one of my fretlesses and spank the {censored} out of it for a couple hours! Nutz! You know, my life's been so incredibly up the last few months, with this last week really pretty good, until yesterday. It's rather ironic, in a shrewd sort of way.
Members bassman1956 Posted October 12, 2007 Author Members Posted October 12, 2007 Well, I picked up a copy of the officer's report last night. The other driver was cited for no insurance, and for crossing into my lane. The other driver's statement is that he thinks he passed out, because he doesn't remember crossing the line or being in my lane, or the crash. Which sort of goes with my statement that the instant I got to see his face before we collided, his expression was completely relaxed, as if he had no idea we were going to collide. Officer stated intoxication was not suspected. No idea why he was hospitalized, other than maybe a general check-up. Will be getting myself a lawyer, just to make sure I don't get cheated. And although I'm feeling far better than I expected at this point, my left thumb through the left of my neck all still feel jammed, and I am going to both my neurologist and surgeon early next week for their professional opinions. On the good side of things, work's been going great! And my potential new home gets the inspection tomorrow, and should be considered magnitudes above what the condition of the last one was. (When I can count on it being mine, I'll post pics. Until then, I'm gunshy from the last round, and don't want to get my hopes up too high.)
Members T. Alan Smith Posted October 12, 2007 Members Posted October 12, 2007 Wow...sorry bou't that Karl. Saying a little prayer for ya.
Members Fran da Man Posted October 12, 2007 Members Posted October 12, 2007 Hope you're OK Karl.Isn't your back already full of titanium? Here a rear-ender that happened to me in 02...this kid had no license, no ins, no registration...it was a mess. He eventually got a fine. I had to recover losses from my own damn insurance company (which i suspect you'll have to do) and they don't take to kindly to that.Beware of the first check they send...it's called a feeler; read it fine print on it. Anyways i ended up in the backseat with my bell rung big time, the drivers sat broke backwards; i climb out and wander in the road (with traffic) trying to shake that {censored} off, till someone coax me over to the shoulder. Damn that kid...he sat there complaining about his knees...the EMS strapped him up loaded him in while basically ignoring me, and i got the worst of it.This was 2 rapid secession hits.
Members L-1329 Posted October 12, 2007 Members Posted October 12, 2007 Damn Karl, that sucks. Sure hope everything is ok and that didn't undue all the back work you've been through! BTW if you need someone to watch the kids, I'd be more than happy to take care of the Jerzy for you. You know, until you are back to playing again...
Moderators ThudMaker Posted October 12, 2007 Moderators Posted October 12, 2007 It's nice to know that people with no car insurance can afford to have cell phones. Hope your bruises and soreness heals quickly, bassman1956.
