Members justinbass
I've always used Notepad to create/edit html. It occurs to me that there is probably a similar application more suited to web design that would use different colors for tags, text, comments. Can anyone suggest such a tool? Members cthulhu0
htmlkit+ http://www.htmlkit.com/is a lot free-er than dreamweaver, and i prefer it. if you are used to text based editing, you should be up and running real quick. at this point, i really only use dreamweaver for the file management and code highlighting. and i do believe that frontpage is dead, and replaced by sharepoint and expression. True: The final version of FrontPage is Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003. The company has introduced two new products to replace Frontpage called Microsoft Expression Web and Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer.

Members zachoff
Visual Studio Express Edition. Free and a hell of a lot more robust than dreamweaver, front page, or just about any other wysiwyg app. Oh, trying to keep it simple.. NM. No idea. Sorry. Members allan grossman
Simple and free? There is only one choice - Nvu. http://nvudev.com/index.php It's overkill if all you're looking for is a text editor, but for an open source Dreamweaver/FrontPage clone it can't be beat. If all you want is a free text editor, look here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_text_editors

Members SteveyDevey
EXACTLY what I wanted. Thanks! I figured.I went in and changed all the colors around though. i can't stand coding with dark text on a light background. If you find a way to share good color schemes, let me know. I haven't looked into it yet, but I'm still interested.
