Members Zebra
Did this a little while ago, but forgot to post the results. I ordered some replacement P pickups from Guitar Fetish for my fretless. Only $40 after shipping. I'm quite satisfied. The difference from the original pickups is subtle, but it makes a big difference. The character of the bass is the same as it was before, but much more refined. It has a lot more of that P bass sound. For the first time, I think I really "get" what the p bass character is all about, and this is my second P. I put rounds back on and they really liven up the bass. But man, it was thumpy with the flats before. Here's a little clip overdubbed with some crappy soloing and no EQ. http://hc.bloodyvelvet.com/files/85/crap.mp3

Members Zebra
sounds great man.what was the recording chain? Bass->computer. There's some electrical issues I still need to fix. Some of the old solder joints came off while I was installing the pups somehow. So the tone knob is effectively bypassed and it's not properly grounded somehow. Here's a more processed recording while the bass still had flats on. This one has some EQing/compressing and a bit of reverb. Beware weirdness. http://hc.bloodyvelvet.com/files/85/cats%20are%20eating%20you%20alive.mp3

Members Death Hands
Thanks. I try. Yeah, I'm attempting, though I'm but a babe as far as fretless and being talented are concerned. Maybe I'll hammer this out tonight, and you can laugh at me.
