Members loops_bassman Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 What if you put acoustic bass strings on an electric bass? The idea just came to me right now as I was practicing arpeggios. It might sound dumb, but hey?

Members jmseymour Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 Yeah really. If you want to spend the money so we all don't have to, more power to you!
Members __tony__renaud Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 Acoustic (upright) strings are very expensive, too long, and they may or may not have ball ends. Gut URB strings won't work at all on an electric with magnetic pickups. Try some flatwound strings made for electric bass.
Members Roguetitan Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 as long as they arent nylon they would sound about the same as electric Bass strings Acoustic (upright) strings are very expensive, too long, and they may or may not have ball ends. O RLY?:poke:

I think he's thinking the brass strings used on acoustic electric basses, not for URBs.
Members fretless Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 yup pretty sure a magnetic pickup needs some good steel to make it happen . Piezo transducers don't or that cool Lightwave thingamajig.
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted October 17, 2007 CMS Author Posted October 17, 2007 You could also glue the top of an upright bass to the front of your bass. Badass!!
