Members danbronson Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 I'm mainly a guitarist and drummer. So I'm usually preoccupied with those instruments. Every now and then though at a show, I hear some really good bass tone that jumps through the mix and just sounds right. A couple of times, the amp in question has been a 700RB or something very similar to it (like the 400 or 800 models). I can't afford a bass amp right now, but down the road I plan on having one and playing bass in a band and was thinking I'd probably get one of these used. They seem really well priced. What are your thoughts? Is there something the competition offers that stomps all over it in the same price range?
Members Rippin' Robin Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 Is there something the competition offers that stomps all over it in the same price range? In fact, it's the G-K amps that stomp all over the competition in its price range
Members Onkel Bob Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 It's really nice. If price is a big issue then a used GK800RB will be cheaper. Down to $250-300 easy. It's not the same pre-amp though, but it's also really nice. If I hadn't made the switch to all tube I'd still be playing the 700RB.
Members Poltergeist Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 spend more 100$ and get a 1001RBII i do believe, for the price theyre the best amps made today... they are worth ALOT more then what you pay for them...
Members Crescent Seven Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 They're killer. I stopped even looking at amps once I got my 1001rbII. The 700 is the same amp with a little less power. The EQ is powerful, the tone options are plentiful, the DI is very clean, and it has a nifty blue LED. The only thing I wish it had is the bi-amp capability of the 800rb, but even so, it still bi-amps, just differently, and you need a special cable, and your cab needs to be wired for it. Minor details. I paid $600 for mine. I didn't find another amp for that price that even touched it. C7
Members mlwarriner Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 i think i'm going to order a 1001RB and replace the head in my hughes and kettner combo with it...
Members rpsands Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 GK destroys the competition in the price range and even a fair bit above it, but only with the 1001rbII and lower models, imho. The RMCaudio.com deal for the 1001 is amazing though and catapults you into 'best amp you can get for 600 bucks by leaps and bounds.' Nothing at that price point even compares, unless you want tubes (The traynor 200w tube head - and you can bet it will be nowhere near as loud). Still, I kinda wish I had rolled with a 2001RBP rack setup. That thing is awesome
Members basste Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 I use the 400RB115 combo with an extra 2x10: 280 watts of sweet sound in a jazz/funk band.
Members NeonVomit Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 Yeah, GK are totally killer in terms of value for money. Excellent products.
Members guitargod0dmw Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 I think they make great amps as well. I'll be getting something in the next few weeks...in the form of a 1001 or 2001...
Members T. Alan Smith Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 Yeah, GK are totally killer in terms of value for money. Excellent products. What HE said. I miss my ol' 400RB. It just didn't have enough juice. I'm GASsing for the 800RB.

C7 exactly! when i got my 700rbII, i was done looking for amps. i run it through two genz benz 4x10 cabs. i also play stingrays. everybody in the band commented on how my sound was killer. i get compliments on it all the time. i have never played the 1001rbII. the 700rbII has enough power for any of my needs. with the amount of headroom i get from the 700rbII, i cant even imagine what a 1001rbII would do, probably destroy planets or something. totally awesome and you wont regret it.
