Members Gaindrain
I play both just fine. I played classical guitar for about 10 years. During that time I started playing electric with a pick. Now I just use the technique that feels right for a song when I'm playing bass. My arm's pretty stable in both techniques. You'll get used to it.
Members Noise...
I found the issue. I noticed how with a pick my arm reaches down a bit more - giving me more movement. Then, looking at my arm with fingerstyle, it's basically resting on the top side of the bass - which is what was really restricting my movement. All I had to do was lengthen my strap a bit. It's so much more comfortable now - like playing with a pick, but with fingerstyle sound. Now that my arm isn't so restricted when I'm playing it loosened everything up and really lets all the fingerstyle practice I've been putting in show. Thanks for the advice everyone.
