Members Retrovertigo
I'm in the planning stages of putting a band together for when I'm not playing out of town with FBSS. This area has plenty of cover bands, but they are all stuck in the classic rock vein. I'd like this band to play mostly funk/R&B/soul, stuff to really get people dancing.A little guidance from those doing this sort of thing would be greatly appreciated. I need some song ideas, especially some that are not extremely well known but still great. Thanks all,Ryan
Members Westsailor
Whether it's the classic rock vein/etc. to me it's about playing to the people... what they want to dance/party. But to get off the beaten track I get a lot of 'inspiration' by googling 'top 100 dance/party songs', 'all time greatest party songs', etc.. I find a lot of the obvious but I also find a lot of songs I'd never think to play. And since they aren't covered by every other band on the block they turn out to be the most requested numbers. Members L-1329
Look at Insomniac's set list, it's right up there for what you describe.
Members The Insomniac
Look at Insomniac's set list, it's right up there for what you describe. Thanks for noticing. http://www.souledoutsoulreview.com/songs.htm We do a bunch of stuff not on the list also but this was the list they gave me when I joined the band. We do some disco stuff that seems to fix. Mostly in medleys.
Members DevilRaysFan
How many piece band? Also -if its a basic lineup of gtr-bass-drums, you may want to think about integrating a sequencer if your drummer has excellent timing, doesnt overplay, and wouldnt mind wearing headphones for a click on a few songs. Heres a list of songs that I did with my previous band (gtr, bass, drums and computer on certain tunes), and my current band (where I play keys) that always pack the floor: Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood (Seq-Current band does it without) Burn Rubber - Gap Band Drop The Bomb on Me - Gap Band (S) Walk This Way - Aerosmith Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith Tic Tac Toe - Kyper (S) Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice Funky Cold Madina - Ton Loc Heavy - Collective Soul Get Down On It - Kool & The Gang Word Up - Cameo/Korn Fantastic Voyage - Lakeside/Coolio (S) Baby Got Back - Sir Mix A Lot ( Ive done with and without a seq) Hot In Heere - Nelly (Seq - Curent band does it without) Superfreak - Rick James (Seq - Curent band does it without) Thank You Falletinme Be MiceElf - Sly and The Family Stone Jungle Love - The Time (Seq - Curent band does it without) Drives Me Crazy - Fine Young Cannibals LeFreak - Chic ( I sing it ) Hella Good - No Doubt ( I sing It ) Crazy Bitch - Buck Cherry This Love - Maroon 5 Superstition - Stevie Wonder Skin Tight - Ohio Players Fire - Ohio Players Da Butt - EU (Seq - Curent band does it without) Shakey Ground - Temptations Kiss - Prince Theres more....... Dont forget slow tunes We do Love You Down - Ready For The World Ignition (remix version) - R. Kelly Truly Madly Deeply - Savage Garden Lets Get It On - Marvin Gaye just to name a few
Members Retrovertigo
Excellent! Thanks a bunch. That's just the stuff I'm looking for. Soul Patch - A sequencer is a good idea. I've got a horn player and keyboardist ready to go, but I don't think that'll be enough. Time to get to work, see ya'll in a month or so.
