Members Crescent Seven Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 God dammit. We have a big show next weekend and he just bailed. {censored}ing sucks. This makes me want to {censored}ing cry. Months of hard work outside of the band trying to get this thing going down the {censored}ing drain. I don't even want to play music anymore at this point.
Members willsellout Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 Do you guys have anyone who could temp for you? Dan
Members Crescent Seven Posted October 21, 2007 Author Members Posted October 21, 2007 Do you guys have anyone who could temp for you?Dan The guitar player doesn't want to continue, either. Now I have to call and cancel the gigs. Apparently I had much more faith in things, because I was the one doing everything, and they just stopped caring, or else just couldn't deal with me being aggressive with making the band into something. Now I'm left holding the bag on not only a bunch of money, but my reputation with these club owners. This is {censored}ing lame.C7
Members BigPigPeaches Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 After reading your other thread, I idly wondered why you were keeping him around. Flakes don't automatically unflake. You know this. Now nut up, quit yer bitchin, and find a drummer that works. End of story. /C7-style rant/ edit: add "and guitarist"

I just don't want to get into another situation where people can't handle the fact that I'm a very intense person when it comes to, you know, {censored}ing giving a {censored}.I'm just sick to my stomach. I thought I had finally found a situation that was awesome, but it never works out that way I guess. So much momentum, so much potential, just gone. C7
Members Poltergeist Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 {censored}ing drummers... my struggle right now is finding a good drummer... either they can play but dont have a drumkit, or they can play but dont have a space to reharse... they piss me off sooooo badly!
Members Jesse G Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 I've always found drummers to be the flakiest bunch when it comes to being in a band.

Can't these guys AT LEAST do the remaining gigs??? Seems like the most noble thing to do, at least. Musicians can be such turds sometimes.

Moderators Kindness Posted October 21, 2007 Moderators Posted October 21, 2007 This makes me wish I played drums and lived in your area. I'd be a perfect behind the scenes guy for you. Reliable, on time, solid, hard working, happy to let you be the aggressive, in your face guy. {censored} these assholes and get in with good people. For me I'll take good people over good music every time. Obviously, it's best to have both.
Members Crescent Seven Posted October 21, 2007 Author Members Posted October 21, 2007 Im sorry to hear this...listening to your stories about Myth Lab's victories and successes has been fun reading for me here on da forum......... That's what makes me the sickest. We had the attention of alot of people, we were going places. The sad fact is, though, I was the one that had the attention. I'm not even tooting my own horn, I did all the work outside the rehearsal room. I was the one going to shows and shaking hands, I was the one designing and paying to print the fliers, then hanging them all over Denver, I was the one pimping the band and getting people to shows, I was the one burning the CD's and editing the DVD's and recording the music and getting people to care. It was my friends bringing their friends to shows, and helping me. I feel like I got ripped off, and I did in a way; I'm holding the bag on almost $200 I spent out of my own pocket to promote this weekend's show and have merch to hand out, and they offered me nothing. I guess that's why I'm so frustrated. They pissed away all of that work because it didn't matter to them as much as the told me it did. Apparently the rigors of rehearsing twice a week and gigging once a month on a weekend was too much for them to handle.C7
Moderators Kindness Posted October 21, 2007 Moderators Posted October 21, 2007 it didn't matter to them as much as the told me it did. Bingo. You need a band of people that care.
Members Spin Cycle Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 I can't find anyone that cares enough to start a band.
Members L-1329 Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 That really sux, and the same thing happened to a band I was in a few years ago. A week before a gig the drummer just up and quits. Gone. WTF? We thought about trying to get him to at least play the gig, but then we realized that we can't hang the bar owner out to dry on a guy who flaked once already, odds are even if he said he'd do the gig he wouldn't and we'd be screwed again. I've been looking for a drummer around here for a long time now, and they are non existent. A good drummer here could gig when ever and where ever they wanted to, much more so than bass players. Not to judge, but any band that rehearses two or more times a week has fallen into the category of part time job to most people, and they will view it as a job that places demands on their time. I see band ad's all the time that say 'practice three times a week...'. Who can possibly do that with a life, family, job etc, and only get paid a few bucks once every month? Not trying to justify this douche-bag drummer's behavior, but it's not suprising unfortunately. He should at LEAST have the courtesy to play the gig, what he did is beyond being an asshole.
Members Crescent Seven Posted October 21, 2007 Author Members Posted October 21, 2007 Two evenings a week for 2 hours is not too much to ask, especially when we were doing it at his place, and we all live within 5 miles of there.C7

Young bands will practice every day, but players generally in their 30's and up can't and usually won't make that kind of commitment. Why being reliable and backing up their word is so hard for those guys I'll never know, but the instant they get it in their heads that the band is work and takes commitment, they're outy. And you're better off with them gone, but it sure sucks to have a band fall apart.

The thing is, he was all about playing the killer shows I was booking, but he didn't think it was a problem when we would drop changes, flub harmonies, and miss parts because we weren't rehearsing enough.I'm a hard person to work with for some people because I challenge people to do something. I won't stop being that person because if I do, I'll end up in a basement band again, never gigging, never doing anything. It makes me hard to get along with if you're not used to somebody being aggressive when it comes to booking shows and drawing crowds and playing the best shows possible. We could have been the best {censored}ing band in town if we would have been committed to working hard to make it happen. All of the elements were there except that one, and my power of will wasn't enough to nudge it into place. Talent is meaningless if you aren't constantly pushing it further.C7
Members no-logic Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 I feel for you C7. Especially when you are doing all the PR work and they think nothing of throwing it all away. Our lead guitard just annouced that he is leaving but at least he was decent enough to play the gigs we have scheduled until Jan.1, including a New Years Eve gig. Good luck with whatever you wind up doing.
Members Crescent Seven Posted October 21, 2007 Author Members Posted October 21, 2007 I feel for you C7. Especially when you are doing all the PR work and they think nothing of throwing it all away. It isn't just that I was doing all the PR work that frustrates me. It's that my PR work was finally WORKING. All those hours and dollars were starting to pay off. I never threw it in their faces, either, I'm really happy to do it, I'm good at it. If they continue on without me I guarantee that they won't get the kind of bookings I got, in no large part because the booking people in town know me, and have no clue who they are. Until I tell them. I'll work just as hard for the next band I'm in. But going in, I'll demand that they work as hard as I do or I'll straight bail. I mean seriously, it's not hard to hang fliers or send out e-mails, or drop off tickets. I could rant for days, but the xanax is starting to kick in, so I'm going to watch some football and get wasted and forget about my problems for a while. C7

There is never any chance of your will being enough if they aren't already on board. There are lots of things that I've seen change (skills for sure), but I've never seen someone become more motivated.
