OT: Pats running up scores?

People are whining about the Pats ringing the scoreboard like a cash register.

Personally, I have 2 answers:

1. As long as the clock it ticking, Pats want to score

2. All your team has to do is stop them.

I look at it that once they get a good lead, it turns into live practice. Do they want to practice punting and taking a knee? No. Practice winning.

Anyone who says they're not running up the score is blinded by their fanboi-ness...

They've scored "F' You!" TDs in every game (Bill Simmons is keeping a running log).

There's no defense for it, since it is a lack of class, but it's not like the league didn't ask for it. They treated the Pats like villains, and the Pats decided "You want to see villains? We can be villains!"...

I think it's classless, but it's also an awesome display of dominant football :D

I don't even like the pats and I'm tired of hearing about this.

If you can score, you do it. Last I checked this was FOOTBALL. The old GRIDIRON. You don't go "aww I'm sorry are we beating you up? Let me kiss it better". No. You do everything you can every game. Do people seriously expect them to just not score when they are perfectly capable of doing so? Please.

Also, I don't remember hearing anyone bitch about the Colts the past 2 years, "oh waaahhh they're running up the scores what the heck make them stoopppp. Peytons being meaaannn!!!" No. Everyone was going "YAH PEYTON GOOO, BEAT THE RECORD!!" Now brady is on par to break it and they go "what a classless bunch of cheating idiots"

I voted for: "as long as the clock is ticking....."

But I would qualify that by saying that if they are throwing 50 yd. passes on 1st down when they get possession as opposed to handing off to ground out yardage and eat up time, then that would be wrong.

I don't know if that's the case or not since I haven't really watched that much of any of their games, Just saying.

Not the same. The Colts weren't scoring passing touchdowns in the last five minutes of games they were leading by three TDs, the Pats are :D

The Colts scored that much because they needed to, their defense was {censored} :D

The Pats' D, like everything this year, is dominant.

It's not about scoring late, it's about aggressive passing late. Yes, most teams definitely do lay off with a big lead, late in the game (For you to claim they don't is crazy). They start running in order to run out the clock (if you score on a run, eh, nothing can be done) and they don't call time outs with the lead just so they can score again (which the Pats have done).

The Pats are scoring "F' You!" TDs, plain and simple. They've got a reason to, but don't pretend that's not what's happening.

lol yeah cause the colts haven't done that. If your passing game is what works for you, and moss happened to break deep, you go to him. End of story.

You don't say "oh dear, it's only our first posession in the drive, we have to handoff or pass a short cross route, I forgot".

keeping it on the ground and eating up the clock is what they have done for years. finish the game with more points than the other guy. not often pretty, but it won 3 Super Bowls.

that's why what BB is doing this year is so fascinating. the leopard has changed its spots.

as i said in the other thread, it's fascinating. this kind of thing just isn'y done, and Belichik is doing it.

i think KK has a good take on it.

And Fruno is the biggest Pats fanboi I know ;)

Do a search, see how many of his posts consist of nothing more than "Tom Brady > Everyone else" :D

Moss didn't break deep. he was doubled and Brady dropped in a perfect pass to his awesome receiver.

They must have gone out and bought some WAY better video cameras then they were previously using, cuz they are lighting it up.

Actually, in this particular case I wasn't a fan of the team and I'm not a fan of running up the score. But in THIS case, I like it!

And the more I think on it, the more I like it.... Their opponents are pro teams, often with higher payrolls. Let 'em STEP UP AND STOP 'EM. If they can.

I'm beginning to hope they totally destroy Indiana. 6 TD passes for Brady in that game? Who knows??? :D

In a perfect world the games would all end in ties and everybody would have a better than average amount of offense AND defense. WHY do the Pats have to be haters? Next thing you know, children everywhere will be infuenced by them to "succeed" but at what cost? The cost of the downtrodden kids who weren't falsely lured down that capitalist/industrialist/competitive path that is the basis for all the ills of this hateful hateful world!

As Fruno said (and I said), no, people don't do this. Dungy in particular is an old-school guy, he doesn't run up the score.

Look at the drive charts for Indy games: Last week, 31-7 over Carolina, Carolina hadn't scored since the first quarter, here are the play calls for the 4th quarter:

They do almost nothing but run, and they did most of the last drive with the back up RB. The last drive? 11 runs, 1 pass, and the pass was with the backup QB in...That's not what the Pats are doing. Brady is throwing deep in the 4th with 2-3 TD leads...As Fruno said, that's just not done.

You cannot go and throw specific plays at me when it hasn't been said which games we were specifically talking about.

I'm not saying they aren't scoring F U touchdowns. What I'm saying is, it's football, they're good, get over it. I'd do the same thing. If I were Brady, I would WANT to break all the records I could, if I was capable of doing so. I wouldn't hold myself back just because people thought I was being crude. Maybe if they didn't suck so much in comparison, he wouldn't be able to.

(I'm a Panther fan btw, so... :()

I imagine the inevitable very unnecessary, very very late hit, very very very that will end Brady's season with an injury because some defensive player is pissed off that he is still playing with 2 minutes left, up 40, and still throwing deep.

I dislike the Patriots, a lot, but I certainly don't want to see something like this happen.

The NFL is a professional sport. If your team of professionals gets creamed by another team of professionals, it's because they worked harder than you and you aren't good enough. If your opponent is scoring {censored} You TD's, it's because your defense sucks and deserves to get smacked around.

If this is all about Belichick getting retribution, so be it. I {censored}ing hate the Patriots, I despise Tom Brady, and I can't stand how much the announcers suck Brady's huang, but the team is good and if they can score a grip of touchdowns against a team that's getting paid just as much as they are, good for them.

As mentioned, sports have a way of policing itself.

Plunk one of my hitters, I'm gonna plunk one of yours.

Run up the score? Oops, didn't hear the whistle, sorry about the late hit...again...:D
