Members Benjamin Posted October 30, 2007 Members Posted October 30, 2007 Just paid for and picked up my new GK 700RB-II this morning. First practice tomorrow night and first gig with this amp on Sunday. WOOT! Three questions: 1. Given my cabinet (4x10 + 1x5 mid-high) has a speakon connection and it can be rewired to separate the woofers and mid-high, is it worth pursuing this modification? 2. What should I do with the boost controls on the amp? When I tested it I ran the boosts anywhere from 1/2 to 3/4. I am not sure if these are footswitchable, should I run them at full or keep them slightly lower for when I want to go to 11? 3. I need to read into it more, but does boosting increase the "grind" of the amp? What's the relationship between woofer and tweeter boost if I am simply running full range out of my - for now - unmodified cab? Can't wait to rock this chicken once again. The thing I loved about it when I first tested was that it didn't seem to mind strings being a little dead, whereas the old Trace was immediately dull sounding as soon as the brightness wore off. Cheers!
Members Crescent Seven Posted October 30, 2007 Members Posted October 30, 2007 Don't rewire the cab, that crossover is meant to drive a tweeter only, 5khz +. If you get a cab with a tweeter in it, though, I'd consider it. Work with the Presence control to increase the grind, and if you really want grind, turn the Contour all the way down. The Contour knob could also be labeled "Scoop". I think of the relationship between the Boost knob and the Volume knob as a sort of Preamp volume (Volume) and Master volume (Boost). Tinker with it; I run my Boost at 5 and use the Volume to control the volume, but it works the other way, too.C7
Members basste Posted October 31, 2007 Members Posted October 31, 2007 the boost is supposed to be here to get dirty the sound. Then, your pr

Members sm5719 Posted October 31, 2007 Members Posted October 31, 2007 related hypothetical question.......i have the same GK head. is it possible to run my ampeg 410 cab (8 ohm) and then run my neo 210 (4 ohm) through the "tweeter" amp with "tweeter hi-cut" off? and if it is possible, i guess they would both have to be connected thru the 2 speakon connectors? (hypothetical because i don't envision there ever being a situation i have to use them both)
