Members 2tall
He's been around a long time.Worked with James Tayler herehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vY1peG8gHQin 1971 (with Carole King). Toured with Phil Collins in the 80's-90's. He was on tour with Toto in 2007. Great ambassador for our sport!

Wasn't he with EmmyLou for a season for a bunch of her great work in the 70s...?
Members Deep Bass
I saw him this year with Toto. Apparently the bass player from Toto had a hand injury, and he filled in at the last minute. It was a great show (better than I was expecting). Members One Bad Monkey
He's one of those bass players I never paid attention to back in the day when I was a young punk kid, just trying to play really fast slap/pop/tap crap. The last two years I've spent more time listening to him and Tony Levin, and my groove and musicality has gotten so much better.

Sklar is a fella worth looking into for his insights and experience. I don't think enough players appreciate how remarkable his roughly 40 year career has been: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/document?doc_id=99991 http://www.bryanbeller.com/literature/potpourri16.html http://www.insidemusicast.com/current/2007/03/02/lee_sklar_2.html http://www.insidemusicast.com/current/2006/07/21/lee_sklar.html http://www.insidemusicast.com/current/2006/08/04/lee_sklar_1.html

Members One Bad Monkey
Funny...he's the other one that won the Lifetime Achievement award! Both top notch outstanding players. An old friend of mine was in a bass master class with Tony Levin once. Said he walked in and said "If anyone's hear to show off their chops, I'll admit you're better than me so you can leave right now. Those that want to learn how to play better music can stay." Members nicebigstrings
Okay, my fave piece of work that I've heard by Sklar. 'Stratus' from Billy Cobham's 'Spectrum' album. Beautifully simple three note line in B that just MOVES. Massive Attack sampled it. Anyone of you heard that?
Members Billystrat
my fav. Sklar bassline is "Your Smiling Face" by James Taylor. The bridge just smacks you with some nice bass playing as well as tone. A prime example of how a simple groovin' bassline can stand out even more than a flashy one. Members nicebigstrings
Listening to it now. There's some great playing all around on that album. Yeah, it's a killer album for early/mid 70s fusion. Quite the cast of characters on it too - Jan Hammer, Tommy Bolin .... I love Hammer's Rhodes on Stratus too. Jeff Beck said it was that album that inspired him to steer away from blues and rock and get into the fusion vein. Result? Blow by Blow.

Members Markee
...yeah, Mr. Sklar is one of my favorites. Quiet, unassuming, walks softly an plays a huge stick. He's a prime example of how to do music for living while being void of all ego.

Members samb
Leland Sklar lives a couple blocks away from me. Once I saw him in his vintage truck driving and almost get in a really bad accident. He's hard to miss when he's walking down the street too. Candid shots start at $20.kidding
