Members skatalite Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Ooo lala. My very first tube bass amp. I love it already and have only toyed with it for about 30 minutes with only my jazz bass. I do have some questions, though! 1. On the back are two 4-ohm inputs and two 8-ohm inputs. However, above each section there is a single input. Are those extra inputs respective to their power (4/8)? 2. What are some settings I should try? I play mostly punk, and right now I have the EQ as shown, and through my Avatar 2x10 it's sounding nice, but I'll be playing it through my Ampeg 8x10 tomorrow. 3. When I turn on the standby switch, I get a couple popping noises but nothing alarming. Is that typical? I'm asking in case it's an echo of a larger problem. Thanks for looking! Time to get a rocking.
Members Super Bass Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Awesome, Mike Dirnt used one of these for years before he went to Fender.
Moderators Kindness Posted November 2, 2007 Moderators Posted November 2, 2007 Real nice. 3. When I turn on the standby switch, I get a couple popping noises but nothing alarming. Is that typical? It should more or less be a single pop though. The kind you get from flipping on an amp.

Gonna change the strings on my P before practice tomorrow, and see how the bad boy responds.
Members dragon9666 Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 You cant get much better then that bad-boy paired with an 8x10! Now how much does that thing weigh again?
Members skatalite Posted November 2, 2007 Author Members Posted November 2, 2007 You cant get much better then that bad-boy paired with an 8x10! Now how much does that thing weigh again? Haha, I'd say around 60 with case? Maybe a bit more. But the case is deep, about 18 inches, so the weight is all at the front. I'm going to be getting a shock case soon for it, so it'll get even heavier.
Members rummy Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Sweeeeeeeeeeeet. Just don't run it without a cab plugged in. Like, when you're replacing tubes, and biasing ands tuff.
Members Pickdust Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 That thing is a Beast! Congrats!
Members Apendecto Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 That's awesome. I would love to rock one of those some day. Yo.
Members Augment Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 I think my settings are: Mid: 6 Bass: 8 Treble: 7 I set the Master volume at about 5 or 6. Volume two controls my main volume and is pulled out for "bright." EQ is a bit similar to the pictures, although with a little more mid scooped out and maybe a bit more bass and treble added. Every now and then I tweak it a bit and get it to sound better. I tend to go for a bright treble sound while keeping a good low end (ie; "The Rickenbacker Sound"), which I guess is also good for a punk sound. I guess the bass sound on "A Flight and a Crash" would be semi-approximate to my sound, if you know what I mean. (I have a Hot Water Music tattoo...)
Members REMUS Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 That's awesome. I would love to rock one of those some day.Yo. Me too! But I would need the right cab... something like a 1516BE Diesel?
Members i_wanna_les_paul Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 What are you doing this weekend? Mind if I swing by?
Members willsellout Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Me too!But I would need the right cab... something like a 1516BE Diesel? The diesel cabs are so amazing. I played a 2x15 and it sounded like god speaking. Dan

Members bassesofalessergod Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 am i remembering wrong or does my 400+ not have two channels?
Members Super Bass Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Nope, its single channel Boalg.
Members bassesofalessergod Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Nope, its single channel Boalg. mine is sitting in my buddies garage on top of my Ampeg Fliptop. i saw them last week. very nice!
Members Super Bass Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 I know it has two inputs but I don't think it has two channels, at least the one I played before didn't.
Members bassesofalessergod Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 i could have swornthere were two rows of knobs on mine..... but i so could be wrong.
Members mlwarriner Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 1. On the back are two 4-ohm inputs and two 8-ohm inputs. However, above each section there is a single input. Are those extra inputs respective to their power (4/8)? if i remember correctly (it's been a few weeks since i last saw mine) the "extra inputs" you're talking about are actually the 2 ohm outputs. the pairs on the back are for 8 or 4 ohm operation, the ones on the top portion of the back are for 2 ohm operation. in case you need it, here's a link to the owner's manual. http://mesaboogie.com/manuals/Bass%20400%20Plus.pdf
Members Super Bass Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Maybe yours is a special one?
Members Super Bass Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Ok, just looking at the PDF manual above. They say its two channels but really its just two inputs. Its basically high and low input.
Members mlwarriner Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 i could have swornthere were two rows of knobs on mine..... but i so could be wrong. dunno. his looks just like the one i had for a while. there are two inputs, and i believe 2 preamp channels, but i only remember one set of knobs.
