i need your help guys..

my friends behringer bx1200 needs a new 12" speaker.

the original speaker appears to be burned or blown... it sounds so loose.

the amp is rated at 120watts RMS @ 4ohms

whats a good replacement speaker that goes with that?

even God hates Behringer cabs....... and heads...

well... if you live in America im sure you could find some Celestions or something at that price...

cant you just call Behringer and buy directly from them? is it in garantee?

Is he going to use an extension cab with it? If not, you might as well maximize the potential and get a decent 4 ohm speaker. I don't know speakers...sorry.

Get something that's paper too...not the aluminum that it comes with. $20 says he'll prefer the sound...

if the amp is 120watts RMS at 4ohms,

can we use an 8ohm 500-1000watts(peak) speaker without damaging the amp/speaker???

Sure, but you're only going to get about 80 watts out of the amp if it's rated 120 watts into a 4ohm load.

the output transistors are probably fried.

throw the behringer in the trash and get one of these :

and he'll never need to buy another practice amp.

I tried to play a blown Behringer one time. It was at the local GC and the idiot that plugged it up for me to test a bass still wanted me to buy it even after I told him it was blown. I could barely here it at full volume much less feel any air moving from the cone. Needless to say I went elsewhere for my combo...

This is a good bass speaker, higher sensitivity will help you sound louder....

You'd be better off though buying a used (better) cab or saving up a little more and grabbing an Avatar cab....

Yeah but...

The Deltalite 2512 is tough to beat.

Avatar puts a custom spec, better version in their cabs. More xmax if memory serves.

If you can get one of those, it should sound better and last longer to boot.

but that one is 150watts at 8ohms..

how much would it be if we use it with the 120watt(4ohm) amp??

my friend cant get a separate cab right now... he told me $100 is the most he can spend right now... but he has a nice ampeg 4x10 cab and amp on mind! but that would be in like 4 or three more months. we just need somethinf to practice right now.

come on guys... I just want to know how a 150w 8ohm speaker would sound to a 120watt 4ohm amp.

I already told you. Put an 8ohm speaker on an amp rated for 120 watts @ 4ohms and you're only gonna get about 80, maybe 90 watts out of it.

Other than that it'll work just fine.

I don't think that was blown...that's just what they're like

If you don't replace the existing driver with a 4 ohm one, you won't be extracting the amp's full output. Try to select one with a sensitivity or efficiency of 97 dB or higher.

I'm going to quote this so maybe you see it this time around. This is the best answer in the thread so far. There is no way to know for sure without testing the amp ourselves, but replacing the speaker is most likely to be a waste of time and money.
