Members Jim-Bass Posted November 4, 2007 Members Posted November 4, 2007 I've just removed the scratchplate from from Jazz bass and found it unlike other Jazz Basses that I've looked at. Firstly the controls to mid pickup cavity is exposed and sceondly there is a hole below the G string which seems to be there fo ne reason. It is not connected to anything ....anyone know what/why this is? I used to removed my scratchplate to get the Jaco look but never saw this before ...
Members 82Daion Posted November 4, 2007 Members Posted November 4, 2007 That's how they make the MIM's, for some reason. It's perfectly normal for that model.
Members Jim-Bass Posted November 4, 2007 Author Members Posted November 4, 2007 oops ...here's the picture. The neck p/up cavaity looks pretty wide ...in fact wide enough to accomodate the EMG 35HZ I was going to use on something
Members rummy Posted November 4, 2007 Members Posted November 4, 2007 Weird. I just took the guard off my highway 1, and it looked all smooth; no holes, or cavity showing...

Members LittleWoodenBoy Posted November 4, 2007 Members Posted November 4, 2007 Does that hole have something to do with hanging the body when painting it? I thought I heard that explanation for it once before, but I could be mistaken. I certainly can't think of a good reason for it.

Makes sense.

I figure it's cheaper to rout them like that: you can cut the neck pickup cavity and control cavity in one shot. Emre
