Confessions of a troll

Trolling is only as good as the people who take the bait. Whether or not trolling works is always up to the forum regulars, and has little to do with the "skill" of the troll.

I think everyone who has a history of discussion board participation has done a little trolling at least once. My only significant foray into the world of trolling was in the late 90's when I signed up for a forum called "Jewish Central" or something like that. My handle was adolph_hitler (with the ph instead of an f to avoid auto filters), so my lack of creativity was already evident. There was a subforum called something like "Survivors of Holocaust Survivors," basically consisting of a bunch of people whining about how tough life was for them because their grandparent or great uncle or aunt was in a concentration camp. I stepped in and let 'em have it. The reaction was enormous, and I even got death threats sent to the junk email address I used to sign up. No lie.

I'm glad I grew out of such things.
