Members Jace-Bass
Hi guys, I'm new here so big shout out to you all! I'm interested in buying a new bass as my current one is a bit crap. I was wondering whether you guys could give me some helpful advice and tips on what bass to buy. I like to play all kind of bass from Blues to Jazz to Hard rock so what bass would be best for me? My budget is around 200-400 the cheaper the better if possible. Thanks Jace-Bass:)

Members LanEvo
Yup. A used "Made in Mexico" (MIM) Fender Jazz Bass would be an excellent choice. So would a new Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass... These guys go for $280 at Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, etc. Emre
Members Thumper
Welcome to the Forum! I'd go with the Squier. They're good, inexpensive basses and a good value.
Members DevilRaysFan
I was about to mention some type of Jazz but it seems that everyone beat me to it.... ...For that kind of variety, the Jazz --- or at least something with the J-Bass setup of having a twin PU system at bridge and mid-position, be singles, hums, JJ , P-J, or splits --- would be optimal..... Members Nino Valenti
I've played a couple of the Squire Vintage RI basses and I personally thing getting a new (just above your preice range) or a used one in good condition is a much better bass. IMO, the hardware on the Squire was really crappy in comparison to the MIM Fender and the MIM sounded much better.
