Members Thumpin5
I bought a 5 string set of EB Power Slinky's today. Power Slinky's run 50 to 135 compared to Regular Slinky's 45 to 130. Do you think that I will notice that much of a difference in tighter string tension compared to the regular sets of EB string's that a usually buy??? Thanks, Jody
Members Emprov
Ultimately it comes down to the mass of the string and there are a few factors that go into that, i.e. thickness, shape and composition of the wrap and core. Not sure that you can make an accurate statement about string size and its effect on tension when you're talking about strings that are that thick but generally, thicker strings require more tension to hold a tone. Members guitargod0dmw
Possibly, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Members Thumper
I don't think there will be too much difference in tension. You might need to make a minor tweak to the truss rod, though, to keep the action where you like it.

Moderators isaac42 Posted December 28, 2007 Moderators Share Posted December 28, 2007 If you feel it at all you'll notice it on the treble side Just what I was thinking. The G string is more than 10% thicker, while the E string is less than 4% thicker. IIRC, that's directly proportional to the amount of tension. However, I think you'll definitely see a difference in intonation. You're going to have to adjust the bridge a little.
