Members Joey Joe Joe
I never said it doesn't work, I just said I can't see how it would help. 5 buttons on a plastic board isn't a guitar.

I'm not saying I'm gonna go blazing some YYZ at 300bpm or anything. Just think of the mechanics of moving your fingers back and forth, unusual finger combinations you may not be used to doing, "chords", etc. It's just hand coordination. Some people may have an advantage because they played sports for so many years and have great hand coordination. You certainly wouldn't recommend someone to go play baseball to become a better bassist, but it certainly helps in an indirect way. GH is just a bit more relevant. Members VinesBass
I own all three guitar heros. I beat 1 and 2 onexpert. I just have to beat lou on expert. (Yeah, I beat raining blood and one) And GH did help my dexterity actually. It's also fun to just play around with parties and act like a total idiot. I love it, very fun. Members JimboJ
For some reason, a lot of musicians seem to view Guitar Hero and Rock Band as something of a threat to real musicianship. Kind of an elitist attitude like, "I've spent years learning to play a real guitar, and here comes some punk with a plastic guitar and a Playstation, and suddenly he thinks he's a rock star". But you can't look at it as an alternative to playing a real instrument. Its just another video game. A kid doesn't walk into a mall asking himself "Should I buy a real guitar or Guitar Hero?" He says "Should I buy Guitar Hero or Madden or Halo?" Those other games are what its competing with. That's what he would be doing if he wasn't playing Guitar Hero. Either you have the drive and desire to learn to play an instrument or you don't. No video game is going to change that. In fact, I have a feeling it probably has the effect of inspiring some kids to want to pick up a real guitar, which can't be a bad thing. At the very least, it exposes them to some music that they otherwise wouldn't hear.

Members lokidecat
GH I and II were fun. III is just frigging outrageously difficult on expert. I mean, I can get nearly five stars on expert Bark at the Moon, yet I can only get 13% into Fire and Flames. God that's hard. For you haters, this is Fire and Flames on Expert (this kid gets 95%!): KUzNcheoY6U

Members RIC N BACKER
I agree that the tight spacing of the buttons is hard for a musician to get used to. but my Son and Daughter have both impressed me with the dexterity they have developed in the last few days with this thing.I will give them a month then push a real instrument on themit was much more satisfying to play the same songs on my bass after playing them on GH ..... Members t3ch
it was much more satisfying to play the same songs on my bass after playing them on GH ..... Within the first 10 minutes of playing the game I tried "Killing in the Name of" on expert and failed... So I was like "screw this game, I'm gonna go play for real on my bass " and I rocked out the actual song It makes me feel better when I fail songs. "OH YEAH?! Well I can play you IRL so STFU!" Members VinesBass
I love playing gh songs and like people who don't normally listen to those bands are like...woah!! They rullee!1 It kinda gets more kids today into classic rock/blue. and different types of current music. Plus the once you get used to the game and can rock out while playing. It's extremely fun as hell.

Actually, a lot of kids DO mistake playing GH for being able to play a guitar. The same thing happened with skateboarding. For a couple years, you'd see clumsy kids walking around with skateboards, talking about all the cool tricks they could do (on Tony Hawk). Some will be inspired, but most will give up when they can't find the "cheat codes".

I know that song!" I was like, "Hell.. any 'stupid game' that opens kids up to SRV, Santana and Hendrix is alright by me."
