+100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 etc. when people ask me if im punk i figure if they have to ask, then they are clueless anyway. my answer is usually this, i am who i am, i wear what i feel like at the moment, and feel the same, and have the same {censored}ed up views as when i was a kid on the streets. i change my look day to day, but whether im wearing my tattered band tshirts and pants being held together with pins, or wearing my hair up in a nice pro style and a nice dress, doesnt matter, doesnt make me who i am and what im about.

Seriously? Sorry Kate, but I'ma have to bust your balls a little bit...

Your above statement is as cookie-cutter "punk rock" as it gets. You fit the mold of a very stereotypical punk rocker, which is sad on at least two levels... one, because of your apparent age, and two because that {censored} was played out sometime in the 90's. I used to get mad at people when they claimed to be a punk rocker by getting tats, piercings, dyed hair, or even go so far as to create monikers and avatars boasting how "punk" they are... :poke: Now I just laugh. So thanks for the laugh, I guess.

You've got proto-punk, punk, and post-punk.

Rancid and Social D fall somewhere in between punk and post-punk.

What's post-punk? Blink 182, which to my mind, is not punk, hence "post-punk".

If you want proto-punk, check out MC5. Awesome early stuff.

Punk? That's Pistols, etc. That ended by the very early 80s.

:blah: :blah: :blah: :poke:

FAIL. I think of bands like Fugazi as Post-Punk, Blink is Punk-pop, or better yet, Pop-punk.

I got to see Mike Ness for the first time this summer. It was one of the coolest shows I've been to in a long time.

Not only did he put on a great show - the crowd was cool. I went to see my FAVORITE artist for the first time in 10 years (Ani Difranco) and I was completely put off by the audience. Not that it wasn't anything I didn't expect...

That's not punk!

Jerry Garcia would never have done that and he's the baddest punk of them all.

Well, there ya go. I guess I can't argue with that!

This thred reminds me of these lyrics by Jawbreaker

"youre not punk and I'm telling everyone.
save your breath I never was one.
You don't know what I'm all about
like killing cops and reading Kerouac.
My enemies are all too familiar
They're the ones who used to call me friend.
I'm coloring outside your guidlines.
I was passing out when you were passing out your rules.

One, two, three, four
who's punk?
what's the score?"

Anyone who categories anything to the point of "punk power pop" needs to be slapped. I {censored}ing hate when I hear people spouting off bull{censored} made up genres. Punkers and metal heads are the worst about it.

"That's post-hardcore death pop metal, you fag. Call me when you get good taste in music"

How about this-- everything you listen to SUCKS. Go sit on a fence and spin.

Chill out, bro. :p Music has to be categorized somehow in order to even discuss it. At least it make sense to some of us. :thu:

They had some great lyrics. Was just listening to a cool acoustic cover of "Tour Song" that Rise Against does. :thu:

Sorry I've been in a bad mood and talking about bull{censored} like this has thrown me back to my bitter, spiteful high school self.
