I went through some country, like Don Williams, George Strait, Alabama, and then moved to Bob Seger, AC/DC, Journey, Rush, Scorpions, Def Leppard, Night Ranger, the Cars, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, then to Dio, Ratt, Crue, Priest, Maiden, Metallica, Anthrax. But also I got turned onto things like the Sugarcubes, Sinead O' Connor, Morrissey, Guana Batz, Missing Persons, U2. A guy I knew in '89 turned me on to a bunch of Sub Pop stuff that sort of centered around his Bauhaus and Joy Division obsession. He gave me an early tape of Soundgarden that year, said he didn't get it but it seemed like the metalhead guys seemed to like them. I also went through a bunch of Christian rockers in the late 80's to early 90's, Life Savers Underground is one such that comes to mind, Bride is another. There were more but I think I hit the genres anyway.

I was born in '80, so anything I listened to was played on my dad's stereo. I remember Dire Straits, INXS, U2, Alan Parson's, the Cars, the Who, the Police, Stevie Ray, Elvis Costello, Michael Jackson, Talking Heads and whoever sang "Funky Town".

My first tape was Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" followed by INXS "Kick".

Rush

Iron Maiden

Boston

U2

Those were the main ones, and I still have some strong influences musically from those bands. U2 especially, I'm a virtual deciple of the Edge's style with guitars. And for bass, you just can't get better rock than Geddy, Steve, and Fran.:thu:

Bands that had releases in the 80's:

Black Sabbath

Deep Purple

Iron Maiden

Yes

Jack Bruce

Allan Holdsworth

Bill Bruford

Pink Floyd

Queensryche

Plus lots of 60's and 70's stuff, and of course whatever passed for dance or party music at the time, but that wasn't by choice, it just came with the alcohol.

in the early 80's I was listening to Sabbath, Purple, ACDC, who, Doors, Zep and the rest of the classics.

mix in some " new wave" and Run DMC, beastie boys in the mid 80s

then the influx of the glam scene like poison right on to Metalica and GNR

I have pretty much listened to what ever has come along and still do listen to that stuff
