Moderators Kindness Posted January 18, 2008 Moderators Share Posted January 18, 2008 I tried to play a Stingray fingerstyle once and it slapped me!
Members 78pbass
All the basses posted in this thread so far are Stingrays. Here you go!!!
Members Death Hands
Haven't played either, but, for my money, I'd prefer an ATK.
Members REMUS
I hope to get an ATK one day, remember that allot of Rolands are digital amps which can mess with the sound quite a bit, so that might not be an entirely natural ATK tone. Members Goofball Jones
I would also not describe the sound of a Stingray as smooth. Oh, a one PU classic Stingray perhaps. But my HS is as smooth as butter...I mainly use the #4 position which is the neck single coil and a single coil of the bridge PU...very close to a jazz. Then I sort of tweak the highs off a bit, and nudge the lows up a bit and it's like butter....like a big stick of butter! But if I want that classic Stingray tone, it's back to position #1! Members T. Alan Smith
I would also not describe the sound of a Stingray as smooth. I think I've proven otherwise.

Members Phantasm
Well, between those two clips, I'd definately say ATK. However, the missing dimension here is that the ATK guy was a much better player with superior technique and he had a lot more TASTE with what he played. IT's all the bass, not the player.
Members T. Alan Smith
Hey T, where ya at with the sixer? Nowhere. It's a big investment for me, so I'm taking my time. Besides, I've only got enough $aved up for a downpayment...and don't think I'm not tempted! [ drool... ]

Members Goofball Jones
why haven't i seen a bongo with a maple neck? Dunno, they just don't make them like that. Good question though. They don't have any natural finish ones either.
Members NeonVomit
D00d, it's becuz only teh GOOD BASSISTS slap!!!!! Heh, I think there's a big idea around that if you play slap bass proficiently, you're a really good bass player. I like to every now and then, but it's not really my thing either. I almost never slap (never in public, anyhow) and people think I'm pretty good so I guess it all works out in the end

Members cl0r0x70
Can't help myself but to post pics of my new baby. The neck pickup and rosewood fretboard really fill out the sound, IMHO. My like-new green SR5 is for sale -- I don't keep dupes of basses, I prefer variety instead -- and this has trumped my Quantum 5 as my "first call" bass.
