Moderators Kindness Posted January 22, 2008 Moderators Share Posted January 22, 2008 Your dynamics are clipping the input at the peaks. You either need to turn down or use a compressor/limiter before in the first gain stage (input) of your amp.
Members fretless
preamp, and there's an overdrive effect, but i dont use it so much easy , smack it hard and back off the gain until the light goes out , make up the volume with the master . Members Mytola
I would suggest both turning down the gain, AND getting a good compressor if you can afford one. Your slapping will be much tighter and more fun with a good compressor. I personly can reccomend the EBS MultiComp.
Members Trauma_Luna
well, i think i can afford a compressor, but do i have to stop slapping, after buying a compressor?
Members Mytola
well, i think i can afford a compressor, but do i have to stop slapping, after buying a compressor? Nono, a compressor will even out the dynamics/volume, so that you don't get huge peaks in the volume, which you get when you slap and pop. Slapping is just going to sound tighter and sweeter, and your preamp won't get these spikes which makes it clip.
Members fretless
The manual says if you still get clip to push in the -10 db switch , did you try that ?

Members fretless
yup the Master , most amps allow a wee bit of clip if you can't hear it as distortion and it only does it on your hardest hits , I probably wouldn't worry about it but yeah if tweaking it can't take care of it , then as the guys said you need a limiter , , it's limiter isn't it fellas ?
