Members REMUS
I've been offered a good deal on one for a p/x on my spare GS112. So what is the good, the bad and the ugly on these big chrome buggers?
Members JeffBass
My buddy has one on top that 8x8 SWR cab and it sounds awesome. If I'm not mistaken, John Paul Jones plays one also...
Members REMUS
Yeah I saw him at a bass clinic (on youtube) playing through one, but I think he is endorsed by them... so it's hard to say if he would actually choose to play one if he wasn't
Members ToeJamFootball
There is one for sale here in aus brand new for only AUD$1300, I was going to grab it but decided on the smaller Neopak instead. If you like the SWR sound go for it, they are great.
Members REMUS
I guess I can always resell if I don't like it, but I seem to remember they don't really have the grit or muscle I like in my tone. Can you describe or compare the tone for me Jam?
Members JeffBass
Yeah I saw him at a bass clinic (on youtube) playing through one, but I think he is endorsed by them... so it's hard to say if he would actually choose to play one if he wasn't I doubt he would sacrifice his sound for money. I can't see him needing the money and his own band blew me away when I saw them with King Crimson. I hate it when guys endorse gear they never play. Members REMUS
I think i'm going to give it a crack if I get the chance, I havn't liked SWR amps so far but I also havn't really given them a chance.
Members JeffBass
Let us know what wins on top of the Aggie, the GK or the SWR. The SWR has some cool tonal features and plenty of power. I have an in depth review on it lying around somewhere...
Members REMUS
Well the 750x is obviously a much more expensive amp so i'm sure it should have some tricks up its sleeve... we shall see anyway
Members TimmyP
One of the guys at work has played a ton of different heads (just about every high powered Eden, GK, SWR, H&K, Ampeg....) and he still prefers his 750X.
Members T. Alan Smith
I adore the 750. Plenty of headroom*, clear CLEAR sound, simple-n-elegant EQ, solid construction, excellent componentry...will effectively anchor most fishing boats. *when paired with the appropriate cab(s)
Members REMUS
I started a thread on another forum and the owners have had nothing but problems with them... is this an isolated case or are there lots of problems with these mofos? Members Bernie P.
I had a 750 back when they first came out.Ran it through a Goliath 4x10.Sounded real nice but it just didnt have the lows I wanted even with the bass full up.cranking the ultra bass up added a little more bass but near full on just added thump and seemed to cut the volume down a bit.I considered adding a preamp but for the price I figured it should already have what I want so I returned it. Members REMUS
Sounds more like you were unhappy with your cabs than the amp
