Members allan grossman
Someone who is always missing from these lists is Jack Casidy. That's because people keep spelling his name wrong Only on page two and haven't read the whole thread but I'd add Bakithi Kumalo and Tiran Porter. edit: I see funkee beat me to the Tiran Porter thing now

Members Westsailor
I thought I'd throw out some bassists that I admire more for their tone, touch and feel than their solo chops or technical prowess: +1 Getting away from the obvious picks, here's my offering for someone not yet mentioned. Definitely worth a listen and 'study': Paul Denman, bassist for Sade. Primarily plays MM Stingray(s) & a Washburn AB40 Acoustic thru a TE AH600SMX amp with a 4x10 and a 15. The guys tone is so rich, deep & buttery it fairly oozes out of his amp. Yet with the crispest, clearest attack you can imagine. He has a very laid back, unpretentious style that I think defines how bass can/should compliment a song. Listen to 'Lovers Rock' and (especially) 'Flow' to see what I mean. I'd kill for such a tone & technique. Here's a quote of his worthy of note for new bass players: "I love space. Some of my favorite place on record are the places where there's nothing- there's suddenly a gap or a rest. Certain things bind us all together in the band, and one of them is we all love a bit of space. I'd rather underplay than overplay, and I'd rather leavea nice little gap than stick 15 or 20 notes into that gap just to show I'm clever. I think it's much more clever to step back- to step out rather thanstep in."

Members NeonVomit
Oh man, not again. I couldn't possibly make a reflective, representative and accurate list of my favourite bassists. So I won't.
