Nathan Watts of Stevie Wonder's band is an absolute monster. Listen to "Sir Duke", "I Wish" or "Do I Do".

Mike Watt of Minutemen/fIREHOSE/Dos is a demigod. My favorite work by him is the first fIREHOSE album, Ragin, Full On.

Mark Sandman of Morphine is usually overlooked, but he was totally unique. His bass only had two strings and he played with a slide. Listen to "Buena" or "Thursday."

At the other end of the spectrum, Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick is a beast on the 12-string bass, with a tone to kill for. Listen to "Need Your Love" or anything else on the At Budokan 2-disc album or "Gonna Raise Hell", or anything on their first album.
