Members justinbass
I bought "Birds of Fire" the other day and I LOVE it. What other albums should I get? Fell free to recommend non-Mahavishnu Orchestra albums too.
Members 82Daion
The Inner Mounting Flame is a better album on the whole than Birds of Fire, IMO, and definitely worth picking up. The only other McLaughlin album I have is Industrial Zen, and it's got some amazing playing on it, smothered by a hearty helping of cheese. It's interesting, but I wouldn't spend money on it. Members gretschzildjian
The Lost Trident Sessions is awesome. You'll find the songs from their live album (Between Nothingness and Eternity, also a great album) on that one. The intro to The Sunlit Path always gives me goosebumps

Members stevenr
My introduction was "Between Nothingness, and Eternity". It doesn't have an orchestra, just the core band--and it is very much a rocking out album. Absolutely incinderary live album! There's a hit-and-miss Santana album called "Welcome". The song to buy the cd for is called "Flame--Sky". I used to have to pull off the road when it came on my stereo. The two bands had a lot of cross-over at the time, and John M sits in with Santana for that one song.
Members Darkstorm
"Between Nothingness & Infinity, live album"; "The Inner Mounting Flame", "The Lost Trident Sessions"; and his collab album with Carlos Santana called "Love Devotion & Surrender". Members groutt
I think of them more as sort of southern fusion, but maybe some Dixie Dregs. Not sure what album to recommend, maybe something live.

Members Thumper
'Enigmatic Ocean' by Jean-Luc Ponty. Fusion electric violin with Ralphe Armstrong on bass, Alan Holdsworth and Darryl Stuermer on guitars, and Steve Smith on drums among others. Members bikehorn
I have Inner Worlds. The Orchestra lineup had changed a lot by then, but still, a solid outing. Also since you're into Indian influenced music, why not go right to the source?
