Members JSmalley12000
Hello everyone, I have a chance to buy a used Rickenbacker 4003 (red) in what appears to be good condition, for $1000.00. I'm arranging to go play it. As far as I can tell, that's a good price. Guitar Center here is trying to sell the same thing for $2000. What should I look for? I've never owned one of these before. Thanks!!!!!
Moderators isaac42 Posted February 8, 2008 Moderators Share Posted February 8, 2008 Well, first off, if it's from 1978, it's not a 4003, no matter what color it is. Either way, if it's a Ric, I'd say it's a good deal these days at $1000.
Members mlwarriner
neck-throughstereo outssharkfin inlays (i think those are all true on a real ric) there should be a serial number on the jackplatefairly baseball-bat feeling neck (IMO) with very little to no taper from the body to the nut and yeah. if it's a legit ric, in decent, even playable shape, it's worth a grand these days. Members Thumper
What they said. As long as it's in decent condition, that's a great price.
Members JSmalley12000
Thanks guys. Also -- the seller is asking for cash. As I'd be a little afraid to go into a strange place with $1000 cash, I countered with an offer for a cashier's check. That's fair, right? The seller said he does not have PayPal, so what other options are there?
