Best Online Instruction

I'm new to Bass. I've been following the instruction at http://www.studybass.com/ and it seems to be very well laid out. I've had less sucess finding good instruction books at my local Guitar Center. Any recommendations on additional online instruction (free), or possibly a really good book?

Books I ended up with are:

Essential Bass Technique by Peter Murray

Fast Track Bass 1

Thanks for the links guys. I have enough now to keep me busy for a long time. I'll definaetly finish the lessons at studybass. some of the stuff there looked basic as hell when I started, but I can already see that some of the lessons probably saved me learning wrong and having to unlearn down the road. Like left hand muting. lol. yep, i a noob.

You can't get a teacher? That would be the best thing for you, if it was possible

Actually, I'd love to find a teacher. But I'm kinda picky. I'd have to find someone that is a bass player, not a guitar player giving bass lessons. I guess I could ask around.

That's a solid way of thinking right there. That was my thought process as well. I don't think guitarists can teach a bass player how to play. This is why I'm starting up with Bassius next week (hopefully)

My teacher is a great guitarist and bassist. He makes a living from music. :)

Granted, I have no experience with the teaching skills of Bassius, but if they're even a quarter of his phenomenal bass playing skills, he's likely to be better than anyone you'll find locally.

Some GREAT playing. He's also studied under John Patitucci, one of the best players alive today.

Yeah, I used to do theory lessons before I went to uni with a guitar player, who is also a fantastic bassist as well and he gave me a few pointers.

It's definately possible to be a great bassist and a great guitarist at the same time.
