Members lowboy
Has anyone done a defret on a jazz bass W/ blocks & neck binding? It's a new MIM J that a friend wants me to do for him. It looks like a Geddy but it isn't one. It must be one of the new 70's style J's they came out with. I've only seen it once so I'm not sure exactly.I've done a couple of defrets, but none had blocks or binding. I was wondering what will happen to the inlays if I need to level the board. Worst case: scratched/foggy appearance. Can they be buffed back to shiny? Will I even need to if I'm using tung oil?TIA

Members Renfield
I dunno man, They looked pretty pearly. If it's pearl blocks they'd be real then. Can't see the validity in trying to paint on a pearloid pattern. The Geddy has black, and it is paint, as is the Squier VM 75.
Members frunobulax
a defretted block neck would be awful.
Members Renfield
a defretted block neck would be awful. I'm inclined to agree. If it was made that way is one thing.
