Magic Smoke

. . . from the hood of my car.

Oh well, I said I was going to drive it until it died, and it seems like that time has come. I was really enjoying not having a car payment, too. I can get something that is more fuel efficient, nicer, and just an all around better car now, but still, its a {censored}ty start to the day.

Its a 94 Ford Explorer . . . and the smoke came from everywhere. I need something smaller anyways. This car was on its last leg for a while now. I wasn't going to get anything for it on trade, so I figured I was better off just driving it until it needed work and then letting it go.

i had the same car back in highschool. have it checked out, mine did something similar and it was some connecting piece of plastic that coolant runs through between the engine block and the radiator. it was a cheap fix.

Its a possibility, but really, at this point, I'd rather just get rid of it and move on.

If you can't get any money for it or your state doesn't have a rebate program for old cars (Texas pays $3000 toward a new car if your's is older than 10 years and you are really using it), think about donating it to the local highschool autoshop program.

I'm definitely donating it somewhere, most likely Kars4Kids, just because that is one that I am aware of around here.

OK, but just so you know, that's probably about a $20 fix. My family had a ford explorer that did the same thing, so you might as well check that before you junk it.

I drove a Ford Explorer for a very long time. I loved it. It had over 200K miles, and I would regularly go 9K or 10K between oil changes. This truck would not die. I know the automatic trans version is a heap of junk, but if you have the manual trans, then it is definitly worth keeping. I'd at least get an estimate of what it would cost to fix it before giving up. Even a head gasket isn't too bad of a fix on those trucks.

You won't really know how wonderful it is to not have a car payment until you have one.

it helps to diagnose it so you don't have the same thing happen to your next car , cars mostly require regular periodic maintenance/service and they can run for nearly ever .
