Members bholder
I hate lawnmowers. At least, the pull-start kind. I haven't cut my grass since the spring, partially because it just seems like a waste with gas the way it is, partially because I've been lazy, and partially because lawnmowers suck. I thought it was legal, because this area is zoned rural / agricultural, and there's plenty of fields on the road the are just left to go wild, but I got a call from the town code enforcement officer - if there's a house on the property, gotta cut the lawn, and there's plenty of "selective enforcement". So I'm out there this afternoon once again trying to get any one of 3 different push mowers (one only 3 years old) running again, and I finally remember what really caused my right shoulder rotator cuff to tear several months back - the damned pull start mower seizing up mid pull. Did it again just now, almost dislocated my shoulder. Damn mowers. Who designs this crap?
Members misterhinkydink
You could check the local home improvement stores for clearance sales. A few years ago I picked up a floor model Toro Personal Pace w/ electric start for $180.00. I've never used the electric start because I didn't get the key but it pull starts very easy. Members burdizzos
The drive belt on my riding mower gave up yesterday, so I had to pull out the push mower for the first time in four years. I checked it out, filled it up and it started in two pulls. I love me some briggs & stratton.
Members Bernie P.
I got me one of them rotary push jobs last year to make tight spots easier than using my rider. If you dont mind some leg work they're a great workout.
Members 78pbass
is a cheap investment to service/have yours serviced annually. I bought a Honda and will never buy another Briggs and Scrapmetal again. its been troublefree for two season, which is far more that I can say for the previous 3 mowers, independent of the price I paid. The B&S mowers always needed something. The Honda's never do. $150 Briggs$300 Briggs$350 Briggs-----------$800 spent in 5 years $600 Honda-----------$600 for 5+ years at the rate its going. YMMV
Members bholder
I got me one of them rotary push jobs last year to make tight spots easier than using my rider. If you dont mind some leg work they're a great workout. They only work well if you cut very regularly. I tried one for a bit when I first moved here, I calculated that it would take me 18 hours to cut the entire lawn with it, and I'd have to do it at least once, preferably twice, a week. Needless to say, that didn't fly. Anyway, so I'm back from Lowe's with a $199 push mower, I can't even remember what brand. Easy enough to set up and start, this time. Some really poor design choices, though - they put a plastic piece on the "safety bar" on the handle to make it easier on the hands - better than just a bare rod - but they mis-shaped it so the back edge digs into your palms. The height adjustments are too close to the wheels, there's not enough clearance to get it off the "catch" without smacking into the wheel, so it's quite a wrestling match to change height. The handle is also too low to easily left up the front wheels for maneuvering. You would think they'd be able to get simple basic design issues right on these things by now, but they always throw away what worked and introduce something new that doesn't. I mow 1 acre of hilly lawn with a pond and lots of trees to go around, in about 25 minutes. Plus, 2 cup holders :-p

Not as bad as they used to be, I had the yard regraded 3 years back, so maybe it'd be ok now.

Members bholder
Wow, your grass grows fast. I only cut my lawn 3 times a month. There are parts that sure do. But with a reel mower, you really can't "let it go" - it gets a bit high and cutting gets a whole lot harder!

Members Thumper
No gas. +1. I've got a Scott's Classic PBM (Powered By Matt) reel mower. My yard isn't huge, and it does the trick.

Members RIC N BACKER
I would love one of those reel mowers. I have a Craftsman Push mower that is no problem to start. I only have a 1/2 acre to mowe with the house and {censored} on it. so its not a 1/2 acre of grass. It takes me an hour or so to mow. I tried a riding mower a few months ago but didnt like it. I have too many dips and hills for it to be practical. I would have to do 1/2 with the rider 1/2 with the push..... I love mowing the lawn. a couple of beers, Its good exercise and no one bothers me while I am doing it.

Members slapthefunkyfour
I love waking up saturday mornings and mowing the lawn. I don't even own a mower but my brother loaned us his since he has the home owners association do his lawn. The mower I use is the toro personal pace. It kicks ass. I've never had to pull it more than two times to get it started. It's at least six years old and it runs like it's brand new.
