CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted August 18, 2008 CMS Author Share Posted August 18, 2008 Thankfully, I only saw this, wasn't in it. I went out for a bite to eat last afternoon, and on my way out of the restaurant, I heard what sounded like live music. Look across the street, and am greeted by this visage: Five-piece band on a small platform stage. All the way at the back of a parking lot. Next to the dumpster. Of a Pizza Hut. Nobody is there. AT ALL. The lot is devoid of cars, and people. It was possibly the saddest thing I've ever seen. I'd possibly have gone over, but honestly didn't want to be the ONE GUY standing watching a covers band in a Pizza Hut lot. I guess everyone else had the same feeling. I've played to like 5 people total in four hours. It's not fun. But I don't think I've ever been in as pathetic a place to play as a Pizza Hut parking lot. Members burdizzos
That's where I draw the line. If I'm setting up for an outdoor show, there had better be some people there.
Members wades_keys
I just got word that our band is booked to play a bike night - no prob, we do those all the time and usually get a pretty good crowd.... This one - the genius puts the band INSIDE, while all the bikes, people, and beer tents are OUTSIDE. We'll be playing for the wait staff and anybody who comes in to use the restroom. Good thing I had already finished my coffee when I read this! I'm guessing maybe one of the band members works there, and got the manager to let them play. Members Marc G
ouch.... that sucks.... I remember getting thrown on an outdoor show's bill last minute and they gave us the opening spot..... when we showed up there were maybe... I dunno... 20 people... cosidering the show eventually grew to about 600-1000 people it sucked BUT... we played our asses off and the 20 people enjoyed it!... promoters liked us too and gave us better slots at other shows.... but... still sucked playing for only 20 people in a BIG OPEN field! lol

Members gspointer
We did an afternoon/evening gig with a 7 hour break once. The afternoon show was great, then a blizzard moved in and by the night slot, we played for 1 person. He was probably too drunk to go home. We asked the owner if she wanted us to bail, she didn't, we played. I still had fun. BTW this was an indoor gig.

CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted August 18, 2008 Author CMS Author Share Posted August 18, 2008 no. Yes. If they are playing a B3 or a grand, then of course they have to sit. But sitting at a single synth is teh el-lame-o.

Members BigPigPeaches
Keys players are supposed to sit. Ha! Tell that to the guy from EMF. He was all, like, jumping around and {censored} when they played that "Unbelievable" song. And see how big they turned out? It's all about having that guy. CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted August 18, 2008 Author CMS Author Share Posted August 18, 2008 playing a single synth is teh el-lame-o. And sitting at it, facing the audience....well, it really made the whole thing just that much more pathetic. Oh wait, there was no audience to face. I'll say this, even though I've never played to zero attendence, I did play a grad party at a private home, and it was blistering hot, so the people all huddled under the only shade in the yard...a rent-a-tent 75 feet from us playing on the patio. (we had been promised a tent too:rolleyes:) It was humiliating playing to the lawn. When the drummer asked if they didn't like us or something, they told him we were doing great, just that it was so hot. We played our 4 hours and a bit extra. While we were striking for load-out, the homeowner even asked if he could pay us extra to play longer. No way.
