question for web developer type people

We had a website done. On the invoice was "photo gallery" listed as one of the things going to be included in this invoice. We paid it. What we got wasn't what we discussed, which is really all that matters in my mind, but I'm curious if the term means something to people in the field. What, if any, functionality generally would be included.

Again, generic.

I'm not sure how to explain a photo gallery's functionality. It's exactly what it means/sounds like. A page with a collection of photos that you can view, normally with auto resizing/thumbnailing built in, ability to divide photos into different galleries or albums or whatever your specific one happens to be callled, etc...

This probably doesn't answer your question but again I'm confused as to what you're asking. There's no grand "functionality" to it besides it being a way to organize pictures.

This is what we wanted, and didn't get.

I'm not sure it can be called a photo gallery then. I mean, you can have a page setup to organize photos into tables or some such... But that's not really what I would consider a "photo gallery". That's just "spacing {censored} out"

THAT is what we wanted....is that a program I can embed into a site?

I think it's made to be more used as a complete front end, but I've personally never used it. Maybe SB can be of more help. Checkout their website in the meantime though...

It's open source, so you can always install it and take it off if it's not your thing.

What did your spec say ?

If it only said a photo gallery then you got what you paid for. If the agreed spec says something different then you should take it up with the developer.

What anyone else considers a photo gallery is immaterial, the only thing that matters is the agreed spec.

What is a spec?
:(

He's asking what work was specifically laid out and agreed upon. If you just said "photo gallery" it leaves room for interpretation. If you lined out what functionality you needed, you have room to question the work done.
