Members Synxx69
I'm an impulse buyer. I just won a "best offer" bid on e-bay for $200 (originally asking $250). It can be found: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=140259241701&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=004 I bought it after seeing this: http://www.guitarsite.com/database/Makers/rec/3072/wwwboard/messages/81.shtml Which states that it is a very old bass. I recently bought a vintage Garnet Bass Tube Amp, and figured I might be able to get some cool sounds out of this old bass. However, I recently stumbled across this: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-296404.html Which states that this bass might be a piece of crapola, (just another one of many crappy Japanese knock-offs). Does anyone have any information or experience with this bass? Did I just get ripped off? I'm experiencing some post-purchasing regret...help. Apparently, it might be an old Hagstr
Members Davedblyoo
My first bass was a Kent exactly like the one in your picture. They are a student level instrument, with sound and construction typical of late 70's imports. Not as nice as say, an Ibanez from the same era, but nicer than a Global or a Cameo. Can't remember for sure what Asian country it came from, Japan probably, but it didn't come out of the Matsumoko (Aria) plant. It had some metal tuners, unlike Memphis bassses from that era that used a worm tuner inside a plastic cover with plastic keys. It's been so long ago that I don't remember what it sounded like, but I recall thinking that my buddy's Memphis P-Bass sounded better than my Kent. I also recall the entire bridge pulling out of the body when another friend of mine was tuning it. I would up trading it for a Lotus Les Paul copy that had REAL open coil humbuckers on it. That was a pretty big deal in 1980. You'll also discover when it arrives that it'll be sporting a set of Gibson style speed knobs for the controls. That was a pretty big deal in 1980, too. The pickups kinda resemble Fender style Jazz pickups, but they have rounded edges instead of square ones, so a little surgery is going to be required if you decide to upgrade. Enjoy!
