Members groutt
Well, it's too late now , but if I wasn't an idiot and had used something as a safety break-away link, what do people like to use? Small, low current, not shielded, cheap. Stupid stupid stupid. I was using a Sonic Impact Sound Pad (stick-on speaker thing) as a feedback inducer on the headstock of my bass and stepped on the wire and destroyed it. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Members Renfield
What exactly do you need a breakaway cable for? Your bass itself?
Members misterhinkydink
A strain relief along with a inline plug/jack on a short cable would do the trick.
Members groutt
What exactly do you need a breakaway cable for? Your bass itself? It's for the "speaker" attached to the headstock for feedback. So there is a wire hanging from the headstock. Of course I didn't secure the wire to the headstock like I knew I should have. But it was just for "temporary" and I was being "careful". But I wasn't careful. So I'm thinking I should secure the wire to the headstock plus have something that will come unplugged if an idiot steps on the wire.

Maybe a pic of whatever this contraption is will help, I can't visualize it at all.
Members slapthefunkyfour
I had a custom cable made for my X2. I had them put in a 1/8" jack/plug. It cost $2 extra and it's worth it. The old cable and transmitter were ruined when the cable was ripped out of the screw-in jack on the transmitter. Break away connections will always be on everything I own that has a locking/screwdown/attached cable from now on. That got me thinking. I am gonna put one right next to the input of my amp. I don't know how many times I've stepped on the cable and bent the plug going into the amp.

Some people really have a way with words and other people... ahhh... don't... have way... I guess. - Steve Martin It's one of these Sonic Impact Stick-On Speaker SoundPad That I had modified and attached to the headstock. Then drive it with a crappy little 9V powered amp. So the bass's output gets amplified and drives the "speaker" which vibrates the headstock which builds up feedback. It was working pretty well until I trashed it. Like a poor man's Sustainiac. I don't have any pictures, but I'll post some when I finish being pissed off and make another one.

Members groutt
Where do the wires go to? Along the neck? Around behind you? Well , that's the real stupid part. They were just hanging from the neck. Hanging right from the gadget. Even if I had wrapped the wire around the headstock a couple times it might have saved it. I knew better, but I was just standing in my living room, not thrashin' around. I'm not sure what the best way to route the wire would be. I want it easy to move between basses or guitar or whatever, so running along the neck might be tough. Probably will put a clip on the wire to attach to something on the headstock and then a plug/jack inline for safety.
