Thoughts[coughKindnesscough]?

For myself, thinking of a neo with the drivers vertically aligned, ala Epi 310UL...and a HF driver/crossover freq for a more mellow, natural extension of the top end.

I've spent a lot of time with the Epi 310UL, and while it's really nice(like, enough to convince me a 3x10 could be the way to go), I've never been a big enough fanboi of the Epi sound to warrant shelling out the $$$. Anyway, the Epi 3x10 is really BIG sounding with loads of punch, yet light & compact...just the way I like it. :D

I know DrBass makes a fine lookin' 3x10 as well. I've played thru a DrBass 2x10 and dug it as well as JeffBass's 2x12 short stack, which was very nice too.

However, if I can bet a better cabinet from LDS at a comparable cost to the DrBass... :idk:

Don't even ASK me what head I plan on using this with! :D

:cry::facepalm:

Here I thought discussing an LDS 3x10 would be a nice change from
which combo amp is best for my metal band and under $300?

FOOL!!! Just have Kindness build you the cab. One 12", two 10's, one 6", and two soft dome tweeters. Now there's a cab!

I had been thinking about that several months ago, actually. ...because it WOULD be a killer cab! But alas, I still be a fool. :(

However, more recently, folks here have convinced me to go with like LF drivers. That, and I've been playing with a guy running that Epi 3x10 and it's been impressing me enough to take that configuration more seriously.

Is there anything else I should be aware of when I discuss the cabinet w/LDS?

Certainly, but this morning isn't a good time for me to get into the conversation much more than I have. I will come back to it later with some more thoughts. :thu:

I got a quote on a couple cab configs from Don a few months ago. His pricing seemed really good, but I decided to build my own.

I think a 3x10" would be killer. I believe I had asked him about a 1x15" and a cabinet with a 12" and 2 8"s, both without a horn.

Thanks for the input. Every little bit puts me mo' at ease if I place an order. :)

Just how much dough is the Epi cab verses an LDS?

Just an extra bit of info here.

About a year ago, I took a chance and bought a second hand 2x10 cab by a company called Patterson Audio. Well, I was so impressed that I looked into it further. Turns out that the builder is a guy named Ralph Patterson who builds the crossovers for Low Down Sound. Eventually, I had him custom build me a 1x10 cab with a coaxial tweeter. He was very easy to work with and very helpful in assisting me in my decisions about the custom cab. I've been using his cabs almost exclusively for the past year and they sound great - loud and full. The 2x10 is a little brighter because of the separate tweeter, and the 1x10 is extremely smooth up top due to the coax tweet.

Anyway, just wanted to offer an alternative suggestion for a nice custom cab, and I know that Ralph Patterson builds a nice Neo 3x10.

Either way, LDS or Patterson, I think you'll end up with a nice cab.

Here's some pics of the build process for my 1x10 coax:

I believe the 310UL is over $1300. Correct me if I'm wrong. The LDS should be about half, if my guess on the Epi cab is correct. I realize you get what you pay for, but I'm wondering how it would compare to other cabs under a grand(in overall quality, sound & construction). For example, if it would be at least as good as the Peavey Tour Series 4x10" or totally beat the pants off an Eden 2x10".

$1300? Ouch. I don't see why you wouldn't be satisfied with a custom that costs half that. You get what you pay for, but with proper driver selection, etc. and certain goals in mind, I don't see why the custom route shouldn't be given serious consideration. Good Luck, TAS.
