Members t3ch
My fiver been sitting on the rack lonely and neglected for months, so I've been trying to give her some attention. Realized that most of the songs I have in my tab collection are either standard or drop d tuning, though. All I've got so far is: 3 Days Grace - Animal I Have Become

Members Emprov
You can use darn near any song. Just move up 5 frets or so and fret everything from the low E on up.

Just move up 5 frets or so and fret everything from the low E on up. +1 Also add to that Trapt and older Hoobastank. Both of their bassists hit the low B fairly regularly, often just using it to drop an octave down on a melody line.

Yeah but not quite the type of songs I had in mind... I want practice moving all around and making good use of the B-string, not just flapping the E's. Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep em coming if you've got em!

If you don't do these things, you'll never learn how to use 5 practically. You'll just use it for the open B.

Members bassred
Just play it, walk some blus lines and go DOWN from the 'A' root instead of up, or walk it up to the 'A' root, from a big fat low note. THere is no specific song that I'd recommend for a fiver, you just gotta grab that puppy and rawk!
Members Hopi
A lot of 80's pop music used synth basslines that went below low E. When I started playing again, I started with a 5-string, and once I was familiar with it, I found myself searching youtube and itunes for 80's pop songs like the Pet Shop Boys and a lot of songs that I hated back than, but was familiar with. If I were you though, I'd start incorporating it in everything that you play if you really want to play it. Keep in mind that part of the beauty of a 5 is having more notes available to you in any given hand position. I've played a ton of gigs on my 5's when I've never played below an E, but still played on the B string quite a bit.

Members FloydianAnimal
one thing I thought of too is just play standard tuned stuff on the 5 string, even if you're not really using the 5th string. I dos this with my 6 string all the time just to get comfortable on it plus it makes me be more precise so I don't have the low B ring out when I play certain stuff.
