I've played one of the new ones and loved the way it played and sounded. Sort of like a Musicman but to me it sounded a bit more bassy. Playability was excellent, especially for a mass produced instrument. It was well balanced, but a little bit heavy. I really loved it though; almost walked out of the store with it:D Dan

Members jonjohn
My high school had a T40.The strings must have been 10 years old but it still had heaps of good tones. Was really mistreated by lots of kids but always stayed solid. It was quite heavy as you would have heard. But not too bad, I was pretty weedy as a kid but could handle it fine , so I don't think it that much of an issue

Reviews are personal opinion and I'd definitely like to hear a second opinion on what I thought to be a great bass. Dan
Members bassesofalessergod
you can get a good tone out of a t-40, you just have to search really hard.
Members Super Bass
I haven't played a T40, but I have played one of the newer ATK's. I didn't really care for the sound personally but it was a comfortable and well balanced bass.
Members lug
You won't find anything that will touch at T-40 in your price range unless you get lucky. The ATK is a good choice (I only know it by reputation, unfortunately), also a used G&L Tribute may pop up. Those are the three I'd focus on in your price range. Members poomwah
if I were to look for a modern counterpart to my t40, I'd probably go atk. But if I had to choose between one or the other, t-40, no question.
