It didn't take me long to adjust to the pick, you'll get used to it. Now once you start playing faster and try to do both up/down strokes...

It's easy to do, but it's hard to do and make them sound even and consistent.

First thing I thought to, but I've already played that same parody twice before, so it's all yours.

Just a little advice from an old pick player, (ahem I didn't type old "prick" player so lay off the stupid jokes): stroke down on the downbeat, up on the upbeat, and when playing triplets it's down up up, that way you will hit down on the downbeat after it. It's weird to get used to at first, but practice makes it habit.

Oh, I use 2.0 mm Dunlop Gator picks............I love them.

Just my simple advice if anyone cares.

Call me crazy but I never understood the real need for a pick with bass. I mean, there are talented pick players, but at least IMO it keeps you from going crazy on bass. I mean, I can't slap, tap, do multiple harmonics, etc with a pick. Plus the "attack" it adds can be matched with a simple mids boost. :idk:

Why can't you tap while playing with a pick? Every shredder guitar player on the planet does.

Multiple harmonics can be done, too. You just have to learn how to work with and around the pick. Same for slapping, although you can't get too crazy.

With few exceptions, pick players will have more attack. It's just simple physics. :D It's so much easier to drive the music with a pick.

I can play chords with my fingers :]

but I'll admit playing chords with a pick is a totally different sound.

but in response to why a pick?

Like a couple of us said, its an option, and I prefer when its used as just that, and option. I know some guys that ONLY use a pick, and I think that is limiting.. Just as I think NEVER using a pick is limiting. It's just a good thing to have at your disposal.

and as far as changing your eq to get the attack, its not the same sound, similar but not the same, and its a lot easier to pull out a pick in the middle of a show than it is to change your eq (unless you have an eq pedal, but then again picks are a lot cheaper, lol)

I can do all of the above with a pick and do in my band's songs ;)

I only slap in one song though and the whole thing sounds much better with fingers though, so I put the pick down for that one.
