Zep without John Bonham is like the Who without Keith or John. It just isn't (and can't be) the same.

I agree , and it certainly kept the band from doing anything for many years , and there are some damn fine drummers to pick from these days that blow away Jason , ( should have picked Abe Laboriel Jr IMO ) :p maybe Jimmy will finally call on Stevie Winwood or Rod Stewart or Paul Rodgers again , How about Melissa Etheridge ;)

While Paul Rogers is one of my all time favorite Rock singers,he and Jimmy Page were not all that successful in the Firm.Bonham is,was, and will alwys be one of the few drummers all others are compared to.Still would be interesting to see,and hear what kinda {censored} they come up with IMO.

Plant will come around $$$$$

Sadly, Jason Bonham will be on drums. Blah blah he's John's son. There are so many better drummers who worship John Bonham. If my dad were a heart surgeon and passed away, I would hope no one would call me up and ask me to do their surgery.

Jason's a pretty damn good drummer that doesnt get the respect he deserves. and when he channel's his dad, its better than nearly anyone in that respect.

Truth is, Bonzo can be replicated by the likes of the virtuoso monsters like Colaiuta, Weckl, Chambers, Garibaldi, et al, but don't instinctually have the same vibe; they have to conger it. Steve Smith is an absolute chameleon, but I dont see him writing like Bonzo.

Abe Laboriel is a good choice only because he plays large sized, well tuned drums, but beyond that, he's more a product of who he knows, than what he knows.

Of any outsider, Anysley Dunbar would be my prime pick because he has a similar approach as Bonham Sr, but a similar sound as well.

YMMV

I hope they take their sweet time recording and writing. By the time they wrap up the music side of things, Plant might be done touring with Krauss and will show up to make a Zep record. I personally am ok with it only being 3 of the 4.

Did Moon's passing ever stop the Who? Some will argue it should have, but it didn't and this is no different. There are dozens of bands that lost key members but kept going. Some got better for it, others got worse, some just kept plugging away and you realize that maybe as good as that person was, other people can do the job just fine.

All in all, even a 2.5 (Bonham Jr) person reuinion would be cool. Page and Plant was great. Coverdale (Plant wannabe) Page was great. I think this would be cool. But primarily because I have zero doubt in my mind that it would be something new, not Led Zep 4 ver. II, nor would I want it to be.

:thu: Big + 1 They have to go with a flat-out rocker who also happens to be killer. I'm thinking Taylor Hawkins, maybe Simon Phlilips, or maybe Zak Starky who has wicked instincts.

And FWIW, I've listened to that Dec. 10 concert to death and I thought Jason aquitted himself very well. Total command of the material (like, surprise surprise) but with an energy that bordered on chaos, and that's a good thing.

I support Bonham's place in the band, and not because of his heritage. I can't say I have heard enough of Starkey's work to fairly judge him, but I do know Taylor Hawkins quite well, and he is definitely up to the task. Whoever it is (even though it is already Bonham, so it's a moot point debating it) they need to be able to hold it down with reckless abandon.

I think the real debate shouldn't be Bonham's place in the band and if he's right or deserves it. It should be, if Plant doesn't want to do it, who should they get in his stead?

I think Bohnam Jr. will be just fine on the drums. His fathers fame came not so much from what he played on the drums as much as what he didn't play on the drums! Not saying he wasn't the total {censored},but he never sounded like a "formula studio"drummer, and that is what made Zep songs so {censored}ing cool!IMHO only.
