I was wondering if anyone here is using a 2x15 setup, I have been thinking about going that rout. I remember back in the day the 2x15 setup was hot, and you could really feel the bass. I've heard ppl say that it would be too muddy, but with the tech today 15s can be really clean. I was thinking about getting another Yorkvill xc115 to go with the one I have. I already use a 4x10 and 1x15 setup, but the 2x15, has really got me thinking. I'd like to here the ppl here thoughts.

My first real rig was a 215, an older Randall that just pumped bass. That cab weighed a ton and was a square box with diagonal speakers, and wasn't the easiest to lug around. The sound more than made up for that though, and it would take ungodly amounts of power and always sounded great. Right now I'm still tempted by the new Peavey Tour 215. I love the Tour 115 too, great cab. Someday I know I'm going to end up with a 215 rig again, it's inevitable.

I think the people who claimed they were muddy had no idea what they were saying.

I used a 2x15 Peavey BW for nearly a decade. Awesome sound, great highs and mids. Thundering lows. Today, my "go to" rig is a single 1x15, but I have two of the same that can be stacked if needed.

I've been using 2x15 cabs for decades. I used an Ampeg 8x10 for a coupla years, but I was never quite satisfied with it and I went back to a 2x15 cab. Anybody who says they're muddy just doesn't know what he's talking about and they're easier to move than 4x10 cabs...much easier.

I've got a Peavey 215D-BW, and it flat out kicks ass for classic rock or blues... Tons of lows, great low-mids, and clearer highs than on any Ampeg 810 I've ever played... Sure, it's heavy - but that's why God made casters... I installed a pair of casters in the back, and a grab bar - and mine tilts back like a 'peg fridge... I pretty much plan to have heavy cabs, but strike a deal with whatever guitarist I'm jamming with that we help with each other's cabs...

I have a Peavey 215 BW that I bought new in 1980 or so.

It was always a great sounding cab.

A few years ago I replaced the Black Widows with Eminence Delta Lite 2515 Neos.

It sounds even better now, is much more efficient, much louder, much clearer, better lows, better mids, better mid-highs, and weighs a lot less.

To be completely fair to Peavey, it's no surprise that current technology out performs 30 year old technology.

Anyway, there is no substitute for 15's.

But the best combo to my ears is 2X15 + 2X10.

All the bases are covered.

I had 10's, 12's, 15's, and 18's.

I used to run biamped into a custom built cabinet that had 2 15's in one "chamber" and 2 10's in another "chamber"... it sounded incredible but was heavier than hell.. the same cabinet also had a rack built into the top with amp, power conditioner, and rack tuner. I built it for a gig in a house band where it wouldn't have to be moved.

since then I've run lots of combinations of speaker sizes and amounts... 210, 115 and 210, 115 and 410, 810...I think my favorite was the 215/210

Once played a Kasino Snake Eyes in the store. Sounded great. 2-15s. I've had some 15s. (One a Montgomery Ward cabinet. Don't ask.) Keep in mind that a 4-10 cabinet has nearly the same cone surface area of a 2-15 in 2/3s the space. Nothing wrong with 15s.

I've played and owned Yorkville cabinets and they are great sounding. Not the lightest out there, but great sounding. Another one of those, though it would be the Traynor TC115 would be an awesome set-up.

I have one TC115 and may add another. But I also have a TC112 proto here for evaluation, so who knows, if I dig it more, I may sell off the 115 when/if the 112's hit the streets.

I like the 215, but I like the 118s as well. I really like them all together. They weigh a lot and you better have a pickup truck to move them, but for an outside gig, they seriously get out there. I keep these hooked up in the house, but we keep the volume way down so the windows stay in the house.
